Paint The Wall Blue Already (Newsday)

Some good Mets Policing happening on Newsday’s website  (below).   Personally, I surprise even myself in that i like the black fence.  Maybe it’s my penchant for the NY Giants, maybe it just looks nice…or maybe I’m a dope.  I concede I’m in the minority and by no means will I oppose painting it blue.

I know the Mets threw out some nonsense that they couldn’t find a shade of blue that would work.

On to Newsday..

I like the idea of painting the outfield wall blue, too, but I doubt the Mets will cave on that one. As crazy as it sounds, they probably believe it will clash with the green seats and faux-brick exterior. The more I see that black wall, the more ridiculous it looks, and what harm could a ribbon of Mets blue do around the outfield?

Next on the agenda — getting rid of the Red Sox’s eighth-inning anthem, “Sweet Caroline.” That probably ain’t happening either. I’m just never going to understand why you would take a song that another team already has established as their own — especially a high-profile team like the Red Sox. Am I the only one who hears the boos when it comes on?

He’s 100% right about Caroline.   Then again the Mets were stupid enough to rip off YMCA for a few games too.

I’m loving the Graffiti Wall – finally an original tradition we can call our own!  Thanks Doc!  Maybe the Mets should ask the MTA for an old subway car to stick in CF.

Mailbag: Mets Fans Hate Black Uniforms, Yankees Fans Hate New Stadium

From fellow Mets fans:

Topic:   “Howie Rose Rips Mets Black Uniforms On Air“:

Those black uniforms are absolutely horrible. They should take all traces of it out (including the shadowing around the numbers). I actually wrote Howie a letter the other day asking him to rail against the black every day during his broadcast…here’s hoping he keeps it up.

Is it Charlie Samuels who makes the daily uniform decisions? Someone needs to get after him as well

I seem to remember at one point during the Bobby V years that the pitcher got to decide which of the 16 uniforms they would wear.  I like the idea of Howie mentioning it every single day.   How about it Howie?

Topic: “Mets Hurt Dwight Gooden’s Feelings“:

Oh brother, I know if I saw Doc Gooden signing a wall I’d think it was a good idea to sign my name right next to it. The Wilpons don’t get it and I’ve been saying it for years. The homage to the Dodgers alone is enough to get any Met fan riled up and now this.

Doc, you were lights out for a few years…unhittable. It a shame that addiction had such a strong hold on you and we all know those demons are tough to beat. Maybe the Wilpons don’t understand that and I think that’s the real reason they want the autograph down.

I hope you come back again but don’t blame you if you don’t.

Glenn has left a new comment on post “Dopey Mets Wanna Erase Gooden’s Citi Autograph (Po…“:

Love the new blog! They’re right, this is as stupid as it gets. They should put a piece of glass over it top protect it and everytime some old Met shows up, (if the Mets would ever invite an old Met) have him sign in the same spot. I wonder if they would cover it if it was Jackie Robinsons autograph?

Fans know that this is the place to come for seating information.  Someone posted to “The Uncensored Unoffical Guide To Citi Field“:

any1 know if there is an obstructed view in 511?

I don’t know.  Can anyone help?

Nik wrote…  terrible… just terrible. Nelson Doubleday really hurt us by letting Fred buy this team.

Topic:  “Citi Field Obstructed Views Petition (and more pic…“:

There are so many flaws with this stadium, the Wilpon’s were fleeced once by Madoff, and second time by whomever designed this joke of a stadium!

Yankee fans check out the Mets Police too….from  New Yankee Stadium Review. It’s “The Phantom Menace…“:

I am a Yankees and I had the pleasure of attending the 14 run second inning blood bath on Saturday. It was my first time at the new stadium. I agree 100% with the opinions expressed above. I really wanted to like the stadium but I just couldn’t. Baseball lost a great part of its history and gained a new stadium that has the charm of a multipurpose field constructed in the 1970s… I used to laugh at those stadiums and ask “how could people allow such an ugly stadium to be built.” Now I am asking myself how could Yankees fans allow such an important part of baseball and American history be destroyed.

I say keep the old stadium. I would rater pay $10/ ticket to sit in the REAL Yankee Stadium and watch the games being played next door on a Jumbo Screen.

On a positive note. The tickets down by the field ($2,500/ticket) were 65% empty.

Mets Horowitz on Gooden-gate

From the Post.

“We got a lot of calls on this and it was a topic on [sports radio] all day, so we’re going to listen to the fans,” Mets PR chief Jay Horwitz said last night.

According to Horwitz, the section of the Ebbets Club wall with Gooden’s autograph will be removed and put behind fiberglass at a to-be-determined spot in the park more accessible to fans.

The Mets also will cut out a large enough section of the wall for other former stars such as Mike Piazza, Tom Seaver and Jerry Koosman to add their signatures to Gooden’s or create other formats for them to do so.

“This is a way for us to honor our past,” Horwitz said.

You know that cheer we do after someone throws a strike after walking 3 guys on 12 pitches?  I’m doing that one now.  Jay, I’m here if you want to pick my brain further.
