Mets Game from a First Timer’s Point of View.

I have a friend who is working over here in the States that is from England. She has never been to a baseball game before nor to any kind of American sporting event. I had an extra ticket to the game today and I figured what better way to introduce her to the game then by taking her to a Mets game in the section organized by The 7 Line.

I started off at the MTA lot and hung out with bunch of The 7 Line Army enthusiasts tailgating. My friend Holly met up with us after a while. She told me that she had talked to one of the security guys and asked, “What time is kickoff?”
The guy laughed and said to her,”You mean first pitch?.” Holly and I saw the same security guy later and she tells him I am going to go see the first pitch now and he responded with enjoy kickoff. She chuckled and right there you can tell that she was going to enjoy the day.

My seats in the Big Apple reserve happened to be next to @Mets_Bro and his girlfriend.(She will remain nameless because that poor girl has enough to deal with dating Nick.)

Need I say more? Well, anyway, the three of us explained the rules the best we could of baseball to Holly and she seemed to be getting it pretty quickly. She got into the game cheering for the Mets and getting behind the team. Holly took a walk around Citi Field by herself just to check out what was what and when she came back she told me how impressed she was with the views that she got to see. Now as a newcomer to the ballpark, Holly isn’t as nit picky as most of us are when it comes to the things that drive us crazy with some of the sight lines.

The one thing she did remark on is how the rest of the park wasn’t as fun as The 7 Line section. It reminded her of soccer matches back in England where everyone was in sync with cheering their team and just having a good time enjoying the game. She even took the loss in stride. I guess because Holly hasn’t felt the weight of the many losses the Mets have had over the years on her shoulders. I do think that Darren(@The7Line, Nick(@Mets_Bro) his GF, PokeStack (@Tezzanym), ME(that’s right Holly’s my friend, I invited her, so I am taking credit too) and the Mets might have made a new Mets Fan out of her.

The 7Line Mets Opening Day Video

No. I didn’t get to go to Opening Day because of work. Yes I was able to get a ticket under $63 (Still spent too much on a ticket I couldn’t use and didn’t have a ticket for the 7line section). As usual it looked like a great time with the folks over at The 7 line. I’ll be at this upcoming 4/20 game and also will be going to the Road Trip to Wrigley in May. Okay, I am getting side tracked here. Darren put together another great video of the get together and it shows how much fun it is to sit with these guys.

Mets Unveil New Blue Road Jerseys

I like both versions of the blue jersey, hell I even liked the Los Mets blue ones from 2011 and 2012. The Mets decided to break out the blue road ones for their first road game of the season.

I personally don’t like this look of the traditional blue cap with the blue alternates. It should be the orange brimmed alternate hat. I am not speaking for anyone else on MP but meh.

Help a Mets Fan Become an Honorary Bat Girl

Screen Shot 2013-04-06 at 6.34.05 AM

As Shannon says all the time, we try to use this blog to help people and not only complain about “wrongs in our eyes” that we see the Mets do.(Yeah we also give the Mets credit when they do something right too.)

I met Lisa last year through hanging out with Darren of the 7 Line. She is one of the many die hard Mets fans that I have gotten to meet that way. We never really said more then Hello, man that game sucked, and see you at the next game to each other in person but since last season she has become one of my twitter buddies. Lisa tweeted to her friends if they wouldn’t mind voting to get her to  be an honorary ball girl for the Mets through the MLB’s contest to help battle Cancer. Now I figured why should I just stop at voting myself. I don’t ask a lot out of our readers, but I would like for you guys to do me a favor and read this. It is the story that Lisa’s husband wrote for her entry into the contest.

Lou S.
My wife, Lisa, was diagnosed with breast cancer last year at the age of 36. This is considered young for breast cancer and so her doctors have pursued the most aggressive treatments possible. Fighting the cancer has disrupted her life at home, work, and even her chance to have children, but it has not dampened her spirit. Lisa has greeted each challenge with strength and determination and she has tirelessly advocated for breast cancer along the way. She discovered her own tumor through self-examination and she advised friends, family and, as an ultrasound technologist, her patients to perform their own routine self exams. She offers advice and comfort to others diagnosed with breast cancer through the Breast Cancer Social Media efforts on Facebook, Twitter and message boards. She never loses her fighting spirit.

Throughout her treatment, Lisa has remained a diehard loyal Mets fan. We went to Port St Lucie for Mets Spring Training as it was her wish to see them play before she started chemotherapy. As opening day approaches, she plans on attending as many games as she can, even on days when she’s receiving treatment, as her love of the Mets goes as far as anything else at keeping her happy and her spirits high.

Lisa would be a wonderful representative of the Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer program to show both that breast cancer affects all women, regardless of age, and that it can be fought effectively thanks to awareness efforts like this.

Read it? Moved you? GOOD, now go vote for Lisa. Heres is the link to vote- Vote Here. The last time I checked Lisa’s entry was on page 11 under Lou S. Vote for her, she is good people. If you don’t vote for her I am sending @lagranderusty to your house to perform a live reading of “Thoughts?!?!?” by Rusty Jr. The contest I think runs through 4/21….VOTE.
