Anyone remember what year this hanKy is from? I remember I had it hanging up in my room when I was a kid. 198?
Thanks to JoeLoVerde81 on twitter for the tip.
What Mets fans talk about when not talking about the actual games.
Michael Baron over at MetsBlog does an awesome job transcribing/recapping the various conference calls. I like the way a lot of the main stream media asks the same question a hundred different ways as if the answer will change.
Here are a few things Sandy Alderson had to say:
SA: When asked if this trade signals if there are a lot more deals to come, Sandy said this was independent of other deals – it does not change their continuing attempt to win games this season.
MY Take: We all have a feeling Beltran is next to be traded. Does it take a piece from a 500 team this year? Yeah it does but in my opinion it’s time to look to the future.
SA says: They are comfortable with Jason Isringhausen and his ability to close, and he’s also impressed with the way Bobby Parnell has thrown – both were factors in the decision to trade Rodriguez.
I am fine with this too. This team isn’t in a pennant race. Heck, realistically it isn’t even in a Wild Card Race. Let’s see if Parnell will sink or swim in the closer role.
SA: He doesn’t believe the K-Rod trade will impact the team, but the Beltran rumors could certainly have an impact on the team – “it’s inevitable”.
Beltran himself sees the writing starting to appear on the wall. You can hear it in the answers he gives to the media about rumors of interest from SF and Boston.
SA: On evaluating a .500 team over the next “18 days” and what his plan is, Sandy said it could be a shorter time frame, and as the season progresses, there are fewer games and an evaluation has to be made whether the team is ahead or behind in the race, and this time period in particular is a “transitional period” and a lot of that has to do with the math and that there are fewer and fewer games remaining.
Speaks for itself. Expect deals to be made.
SA: Regarding what moving K-Rod does regarding the future of Jose Reyes with the Mets, Sandy said they can now look at 2012 with “considerably more payroll flexibility – that’s pretty obvious. That flexibility to allocate our resources will be important going into next season
Looks like the Mets are at least going to try to ink Reyes to a contract. 17.5 million they don’t have to be wasting on a closer.
SA: He expects Wright to return by July 22 when the Mets play the Marlins in Miami.
Shannon will be upset because that takes a position spot away from #28. I wonder where he will end up on the field/bench.
Well that it is what I found interesting out of the call. If you want you can read the rest here at Metsblog.
I really have no idea what these numbers mean. I don’t really pay attention to the WABU,HATE, NANU NANU or JAR JAR uni stats that Shannon and Walt talk about. Walt the official unofficial Mets Police Uni tracker sent this over to me since Shannon is away. Good job by Walt for doing all this stat work.
For you guys who get this, enjoy.

Also guys, gals, and mercurians if you haven’t already check out BELIEVE written by Lori Martini. She is a die hard Mets fan and wrote this song from the heart. It is also one of the songs Justin Turner uses for his walk up music when batting. I am putting the link here so you guys can comment on her you tube page about what you think of the song. Here is the link for the official music video.
There was a lot of speculation about this earlier this year. So much so I even mocked up a Logo for the 2013 All-Star Game if the Mets got to host it.
This is from Adam Rubin over at ESPNNewYork.
Commissioner Bud Selig said it was expected that Citi Field and the New York Metswill eventually be announced as hosts for the 2013 All-Star Game. “I’d say their chances look pretty good,” Selig said Tuesday.
The Mets only hosted one all star game at Shea and that was in 1964, the first year it was open.

Shannon has a ton of 80’s week posts this week to cover himself while away. I felt left out from posting. So this was just great timing when someone showed me this in person today. It is a I was at Tom Seaver Day bumper sticker from 1988. How many people remember back then that the FAN was on 1050 am?
Pretty cool huh?
