Bobby V. Breaks Leg Forty years Ago Today

I don’t think I knew this, or if I did I either forgot or didn’t care enough to remember.

This is an excerpt from Chris Jaffe over at Hardball Times.Com.

Valentine leaped up all right, but the ball missed his glove by a hair, for a home run. More importantly, gravity made a disastrous appearance. Valentine began descending, and when he did, his leg got tangled in the wall. It went between a pair of supporting poles. The wall gave way a bit, just enough to trap his leg. Then it flipped him to the ground. The middle part of his shin was bent. That middle part of a shin is never supposed to bend, but bend it did. It was the closest baseball got to a Joe Thiesman-Lawrence Taylor moment.

Sounds like it might have hurt a little bit…Click here for full story.

My Mets Banner Day Thoughts

I don’t agree in total with Shannon’s Post about Banner Day. The weather was iffy and I think a 100 entries for that day a was pretty impressive. It was reported by most of the the weather people that there was supposed to be scattered showers all day. I even had the two people that were coming with me back out because of the weather. So I can understand why there wasn’t a bigger turnout. However, I do feel the quality of the banners came out much better then last year and I’ll take the quality over the quantity.

I do see his point about people asking him/us to fight for something like banner day(People want old timer’s day,etc..) and by not showing up that it kind of kills the momentum of getting the Mets to keep on doing things like this. I have known Shannon all my life and I know when he gets passionate about something and he feels people might have dropped the ball he will go on an offensive. Did he go a little overboard? Maybe. But, I rather have him being passionate then blaise’.

I had fun on banner day. If you guys don’t want to participate, I understand. You should get into it next year if you can, it is a experience. Otherwise I know the people who want to do it will do it, the people who don’t want to won’t. Also read Dan’s post about this. I agree with his post more then I agree with Shannon’s.

HOLD TIGHT AND PRETEND IT’S A PLAN

What My Mets Banner Day Meant.

I made my banner last week in the few minutes of downtime I had and I thought it came out pretty well. Got to Citi Field to line up for the banner today. I met up with Shannon and MP Jr. and I watched the kid while Shannon did his thing. I had my banner opened and the Mets personnel came by a few times and liked it.Mr Met even stopped by it and took some pics and videos with it.

It seemed to be a hit, people liked it both on line and that worked for the Mets.

Then @Mets_Bro pointed out this to me by Adam Rubin.

‏@AdamRubinESPN
One banner got missed by the censors: “Hold tight and pretend it’s a plan.” Ouch. #mets

I let Rubin know it was mine. Now here’s the thing. It’s not meant to be a real “knock” on the Mets. If you guys watch Dr. Who at all, he tends to fly by the seat of his pants and always is looking like he doesn’t have a plan and at the last minute something comes together. You then realize he kind of had the outcome planned all along. The Mets make me feel like that right now. Everything is topsy turvy and wacky, but hopefully they have that plan in place that will make everything okay.

The I Want to Believe came about months ago when Shannon and I were just brainstorming stuff for the site. We both love X FILES and The Mets and we mashed them together. It really is the feeling I have with the Mets right now. I SO WANT TO BELIEVE In this team but I can’t right now.

As for Mr. MET. He is the Mets 2013 All Star. Guy is always out there hustling and doing his best.

I don’t think the Banner really “got by” the censors as much as the Mets staff got the meaning. I talk to a few of them regularly and I know they watch some Sci-Fi shows.
