Too funny. Â Thanks to Matt for sending this one in.
The Mets quietly admit the obstructed views at Citi Field
Well look at that! Â Look what the New York Mets have added to their ticket sales. Â An actual warning that you might not be able to see parts of the outfield.
Friends, this stuff makes me happy. Â I’m sad that we can’t see the left fielder, but I am pleased that the Mets (who read this site folks) have taken another one of my friendly suggestions (like renaming the former “Saturday” plan) and decided to be honest with fans. Â If you click the box and sit in those seats, that’s on you. Last year David Howard and friends just took your money and told you you were crazy.
Long time readers of the Mets Police know I have spent an awful lot of time on obstructed views, so I’m glad to see this change.
This stuff works Mets fans, you keep sending things in and I’ll keep riding their case until we win the World Series while dressed nicely. Â Big thanks to Michael for bringing this to my attention. Â Send stuff to [email protected] when you have it.
MetsBlog’s fan confidence rating is at 11%
UPDATE: This has become a very interesting discussion in the comments section. Â I’ve made this post “sticky” at the top, but in the comments you’ll see a back and forth discussion related to some critiques re Metsblog. Â My personal opinion is that they are unfair, but I do think this is a good forum for discussion…below is the original post and you will find the comments here.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Â Michael Baron who works on MB (often covers the weekends) dropped me this note, I think you will find it insightful:
Hey Shannon,
Great post about MetsBlog.
I think one thing which needs to be clarified is the perception about the comment moderation among some of your readers, and readers of MetsBlog, and other sites.
Take it from me, Ive spent many hours going through the comments, and I think Ive approved about 1000 readers since the Winter Meetings. Its impossible to get everyone, and the line only gets longer. I for one don’t have a bias, and I deal with dozens of requests to get unmoderated, and I try to take a fair approach on the issue – someone who has made 10-15 insightful comments without foul language, racial slurs, etc. and makes valuable contributions.
Shannon: That makes sense to me
THE ORIGINAL POST THAT STARTED ALL THIS IS BELOW:
You’ve probably heard of MetsBlog, right?
Matt Cerrone who runs the joint has a Fan Confidence Rating index. Â I’m not sure what the mechanism is, but it caught my eye that it’s at 11%. Â ELEVEN.
I mean, how low could it actually go? Â Even if they lost 120 games there’d still be 11% of Mets fan who gotta believe, no?
It made me start wondering what “The Wilpons*” (more on that in a second) think when they see that. Â On twitter (I’m @metspolice) we already joked (I think) that Fred probably doesn’t have a computer but Jeff has.
I know for a fact the Mets check out this site, so I am sure they have looked at MetsBlog in the last month and seen the number. Â I mean, what really goes through their minds when they see that? Â 89% of the fans are in the tank? Â I know fans are always doom and gloom, but 89%? Â Wow.
As for “The Wilpons” I love how that’s becoming a thing. Â I know it’s short hand for Fred and Jeff, but in some ways it seems like it indicts the whole gang including Omar Wilpon and D.Howard Wilpon.
You know who is having a great off-season? Â Jerry Manuel. Â Haven’t heard a peep from him all winter, and nothing is his fault. Â Jerry, learn from Bobby V’s mistakes and get this team starting hot out of the gate. Â I don’t know what you’re going to do on days 2-5 and for your sake I hope Santana is sound.
By the way, if you ever want to drop me a note I am [email protected], I reply to everyone, and really appreciate all the great links that get sent in.
Links and Housecleaning
I’m trying to catch up on blogging tonight. Â I’ve been on the road quite a lot, and very busy. Â A few things got past me that normally wouldn’t, so some stuff I would normally have been all over (like these Mets jobs postings) and by the time they’ve made 17 other blogs I figure why bother since you’ve probably seen it.
However, here’s some things of interest in case you did miss them.
Over here on the left is a shot from WCBS’s aerial photos of Citi. Â That’s the bullpen reconstruction and there’s more photos here.
I started Shannon’s Other Blog which I admittedly don’t put nearly as much work or time as I do in this place, but is proving to be a great spot for interesting articles that might be out of place here. Â I will probably do a fair amount of Olympics and World Cup over there, but although I mention the site here from time to time I’m not really pushing it or trying to grow traffic. Â Here’s some articles that may interest you:
They are adding a club to Wrigley.
Selig gets a statue before Seaver
The White Sox are unretiring #11
Paul’s Random Stuff interests me, including this article about the 2009 Topps Cards…I didn’t know they did a set of throwback cards. Â Take a close look at what Reyes is wearing.
Paul has some other cool stuff, a Gary Rajsich card, and some stuff about the 2010 Topps series…check it out.
That’s it for tonight. Â I’m going to work on some things in advance…come back in the morning to see some quality Luis Castillo humor, some awesome uniform stuff, and a great example of why Mets Policing is working!
Shea Stadium looked better with the squares
Shea is having a good few days here at Mets Police.
There’s nothing really Policey about this, but I though I’d share this blog link, with some cool Shea stories and I just really like this photo. Â Look at young Shea, it looked better before the blue and the neon – yes I realize I just said a Mets stadium looked better with less blue.
