New Alternate Mets Caps for 2010 #5

Tonight’s cap has the edge over last night’s for one reason….it’s not black.  Blue and Orange makes it slightly more defendable…sort of like if Colonel Green were wearing it next to Khan in a black one.   (You’re either laughing or will never get the reference, move on.)

Why isn’t Citi Field filling up?

I spent a lot of the off-season predicting doom and gloom for Mets attendance.   Even I am surprised at the number from last night.

30, 042.

Now that’s not the worst number in the world.  You do that 80 times and you draw 2.4 million.  However, it seems small to me.

The team has been interesting.   The weather is warm.  So why aren’t you going?

I’ll be curious to see today’s crowd.  It’s a hot day, a Saturday+ plan game and a giveaway.

Should be good, no?

Michael Baron’s Mets Jersey Collection

Let’s all wish Michael Baron congratulations since he is getting married this weekend.

You may know Michael from weekend duty on MetsBlog (I need a weekend guy) or his own site Mets Photos.

How does @Michaelgbaron prepare for his wedding?   He tweeted me his collection of Mets jerseys.   Now that’s a dedicated Mets blogger.   Or maybe he outsmarted me and pre-loaded the tweet – that’s what I would have done.

Anyways, it’s hot, I lack ideas, I’m tired from my run so this makes my life easy – and since he is getting married I promised I wouldn’t make fun of the sixteeenth jersey.

I’m heading out to Citi today – I have my white pinless pulled out, and trying to get Junior to wear his – but I can’t find my Blue Cap so I may have to go Mr. Met Alternate……then again it’s super-hot I may just go jersey-less and stick to a t-shirt.

Baron’s site also has this wonderfully titled post:

I am ashamed of Oliver Perez

That’s hilarious.  Don’t worry, Ollie will eventually go 17-9 for the Dodgers.  Probably the same year Reyes wins the MVP with Boston.

Nice work Michael, and if you’re going to title posts like that don’t forget to shower before the wedding.

Ha!

A demoted guy instead of Gary Matthews Junior

Folks got what they wanted….sort of surprised they called up a 3rd catcher.  I guess they feel a pinch hit out of Blanco is better than one out of GMJ, and this way they don’t have to worry about running out of catchers which I can’t recall ever actually happening in a game – and if it does just torture Tatis.  Anyways…

FLUSHING, N.Y., June 4, 2010 – The New York Mets today announced that they have placed infielder Luis Castillo on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to June 2, with a bruised right heel and recalled infielder Ruben Tejada from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League. Castillo underwent a CT scan yesterday at New York ’s Hospital for Special Surgery which was negative.  The Mets also designated outfielder Gary Matthews, Jr. for assignment and recalled catcher Omir Santos from Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League.

Tejada will wear #11 and Santos will wear #9 and both will be available for tonight’s game vs. Florida .

Oh and Ollie – way to put team first.   Here’s tonight’s lineup in case nobody has tweeted it.
