A demoted guy instead of Gary Matthews Junior

Folks got what they wanted….sort of surprised they called up a 3rd catcher.  I guess they feel a pinch hit out of Blanco is better than one out of GMJ, and this way they don’t have to worry about running out of catchers which I can’t recall ever actually happening in a game – and if it does just torture Tatis.  Anyways…

FLUSHING, N.Y., June 4, 2010 – The New York Mets today announced that they have placed infielder Luis Castillo on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to June 2, with a bruised right heel and recalled infielder Ruben Tejada from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League. Castillo underwent a CT scan yesterday at New York ’s Hospital for Special Surgery which was negative.  The Mets also designated outfielder Gary Matthews, Jr. for assignment and recalled catcher Omir Santos from Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League.

Tejada will wear #11 and Santos will wear #9 and both will be available for tonight’s game vs. Florida .

Oh and Ollie – way to put team first.   Here’s tonight’s lineup in case nobody has tweeted it.

  1. Word is Blanco had a cortisone shot and will be unavailable (but not long enough to DL), and they need Santos for a few days to fill in. Hopefully he’ll be back down next week and Feliciano will be up.

  2. Basically, for the next few days the Mets are playing with 23 game ready. With “Hank White” and Ollie available if things get desperate.
