On Wednesday, July 14, the first 2,500 fans in attendance for the Cyclones’ 7pm game against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers will receive a Wally Backman “Then & Now”mini bobblehead, presented by Lutheran Medical Center.
The 4″-tall collector’s item features Backman “then” — fielding his position in a 1986 World Champion New York Mets uniform — and “now” — as manager of the Cyclones, leaning on a bat.
Backman was a standout second baseman for the Mets in the 1980s – a gritty, hard-nosed table-setter at the top of the lineup for a team that won divisional titles in 1986 and 1988, and an iconic World Series championship in 1986. Backman played in the major leagues for 14 seasons, including nine with the Mets (1980-1988), and five with the Minnesota Twins (1989), Pittsburgh Pirates (1990), Philadelphia Phillies (1991, 1992), and Seattle Mariners (1993). He finished his career with a .980 fielding percentage, and is one of only 66 MLB players ever to notch six hits in a single game (4/27/90). Backman’s 106 stolen bases with the Mets ranks eighth on the franchise’s all-time list and his .283 career batting average for New York ranks ninth. Backman hit .333 in six games against the Boston Red Sox in the Mets’ 1986 World Series win.

Let’s take the defending National League champs as an example. If you purchase a National League Division Series Home Game 1 reservation for the Phillies and they qualify for the postseason, your selected game will occur and a reservation would allow you to purchase a ticket for the first home Division Series game at Citizens Bank Park (either Game 1 or Game 3 of the Division Series, depending on whether the Phillies have home field advantage in the series).
The cost for each transaction is $10 for the Division Series, $15 for the League Championship Series and $20 for the World Series. The maximum purchase for each game is two reservations per household per team per series. So it would cost $90 now if you wanted to reserve two tickets for one game of all three possible postseason rounds, for example.
And let us not forget the always inexplicable:Â * A $1 per order transaction fee applies to each purchase of Postseason Ticket Reservations
So Mets fans, do you wanna “waste” $45 on a chance at being at the first home game of all three rounds?
Maybe you are considering this. Â A few things to ask yourself….
…what happens if your face value tickets are the top tier tickets?
..how does this affect post-season lotteries? Â Smaller pool for you folks with the 15 game plans I assume. Â Maybe?
…29 of the 30 teams are participating. Â Wanna guess who isn’t?
…I kinda wanna buy Cubs World Series tickets just to be one of the 4 people on Earth who can say they have ever done that.
…and what happens to Stubhub? Â Well I am no lawyer but I can read:
