Mets Stubhub Ad

Well I have finally made it to the outdoors portion of Mets Police HQ.   The thermometer says it is 95 in the shade, and I’m baking in the sun as I like to do.   I think me, the raft and some Coronas have a pool date after I do my noon-time internet rounds.

Here’s a puzzler.

Remember the last two weeks the Mets advertised “Better Seats, Lower Prices” or whatever the proper phrasing was?  This was the ad campaign at the stadium, on TV and over email that encouraged you to buy tickets directly from the Mets?  I took the campaign to mean that the Mets wanted us to believe buying directly from them was better.

OK, might make sense…..so why does this get emailed to me from mets.com?

If the Mets have better seats and lower prices why are they sending me to Stubhub?

Perhaps it is the exceptional service Stubhub is said to provide.  Perhaps you go to Mets.com for great seats and prices, but only “really good” service, but if you’d like exceptional service with ok seats and slightly higher prices you go to Stubhub.

I’m not smart enough to figure this one out.

Someone will likely let me know that “all the teams do this” – that’s no defense.  Nearly half the teams don’t let their pitcher bat, it doesn’t make it any less stupid.

Maybe some day someone will figure out how to combine prices, location AND service – then we’ll be on to something.

Man, I worked up a sweat just typing this.  My small palm tree on the other hand is quite happy.

This week: Pyrotechnics (Fireworks), wine, bags, Mets Bobbleheads and more

I’m back from the Unnamed Donut Chain and quite surprisingly they have introduced several new flavors of a tropical theme.  I would tell you about them and which one I really liked but that’s what the advertising space on the side is for 😉

Anyways…here’s what the Mets are up to this week:

Tonight is Pyrotechnics Night…which is like Fireworks Night but better.

I believe Saturday to be Jose Reyes drawstring bag day, but the Mets didn’t mention that in this morning’s email.  Perhaps lots of tickets have been sold.

Sunday is Jason Bay Bobblehead day.  Don’t forget the Mets Police Tip: enter through the Bullpen Gate on 126th street, premiums seem to last longer out there.  Another good strategy is to wait until around noon Sunday and call Media Goon who always seems to be looking for someone to go with him to his Sunday seats.

There’s also a wine tasting event on Wednesday night, but I’ll chat more about that later.  Right now Mrs. Mets police is on my back to hook up the printer.   You are probably asking yourself why the printer is disconnected in the first place.  I am too.

Sale on ‘Shea’s final season’ Mets jerseys

This came in on Friday so hopefully the sale is still valid (I’m still asleep.  I love pre-posts!  I had the weirdest dram, I was in Atlanta and fireworks went off at 4 in the morning….)

Let me let BG tell you about it.

Hey Shannon,

In light of the recent jersey customization done by Terrence, I thought I’d pass along a link for anyone else who might be interested.

These jerseys have the final Shea season patch on them with NNOB.  Theyre on sale for about 122.  The site also has regular authentics sans the Shea patch for about 109. Unfortunately the Shea versions are only available for the larger fellas.

Hmmm.  A non-cream pinnie is intriguing.  And I do look at the Shea patches and wish I had one.   I do have my MP #86 jersey which is non0cream.  (MP is Mets Police not Mike Piazza or Pelfrey or anything.  See who can come up with the best random Mets MP. Go.)

I still haven’t worn my orange Osh41 annoyer or my Ironic Murphy green jersey yet, it was a Stars and Stripes weekend after all….I think I’ll resist, but that doesn’t mean you should.

Hey Media Goon – what was that awesome link I sent you?  Didn’t you get an Ike on the cheap?

I think I will save my money on my hypothetical no dropshadow 50th anniversary true-retro jerseys that I’m hoping Dave Howard is about to announce.  Please Dave?

Wright and Reyes are All Stars

Seriously it’s 4th of July and nice out. Get off the computer. At least I’m typing from the beach.

Congrats to David Wright and Jose Reyes who are on the All Star team.

Initial reports are that Pelfrey isn’t on.

I’ll be on twitter a bit. Keep your eye on the left side of the main page for updates or just follow @metspolice

However it’s nice out. As Shatner once said, “Get a life!” (says the fat guy blogging from a beach).

Tom Gorman on Fireworks Game (link)

ESPN New York had a nice piece on Friday about the Fireworks Game.

Gorman, now 53, was the winning pitcher on Opening Day in 1985 when Gary Carter hit a walk-off home run in his first Mets game.

He was the winning pitcher in an 18-inning game against the Pirates a couple of weeks later.

He was the losing pitcher in a 26-7, loss to the Phillies on June 11.

And he was the winning pitcher, essentially by default, in that marathon game against the Braves.

A very enjoyable piece about one of the most memorable games in Mets history.
