Behold!
Thanks to FormerDirtDart for rocking this out. Â However, it clearly scientifically shows that the Mets were undefeated in black Mets jerseys so you’re not really helping the cause here buddy. Â Click on it for bigger version. Â Very fun.
What Mets fans talk about when not talking about the actual games.
I enjoyed last week’s Impossible Poll, which is designed to force you to make a hard choice. Â I also tend not to ask a question.
The options were: Â Black Mets jersey, Plexiglass, Jimmy Rollins or Rain Delay.
Not surprisingly, black Mets jerseys won with 44% of the vote, thus proving Mets fans love black jerseys. Â As defending champion, I have started a new poll to see if black Mets jerseys can continue to win against steep competition.
Rain Delays were second with 37%, but interestingly Jimmy Rollins (11%) beat out Plexiglass (9%), so either some Phillies fans voted or David Howard needs to sit in the Promenade with me. Â (Come on Dave, it will be fun.)
If you’re reading this via email or Google Reader you’ll find the poll on the main metspolice site and if you’d like to be one of those email/reader folks click here.
Today’s winner is Randy from The Apple.
I like that he picked his attire based upon the peer pressure of knowing he was meeting me. Â Cerrone slipped in a orange undershirt to his combo. Â Nice.
(I’m just my usual slobby self.)
Turns out, Randy went to the wrong bar.
Tommy from TheKnicksBlog saw some dude wandering Manhattan in an Ollie jersey and had a sneaking suspicion that “Ollie” was trying to find us. Â He was, and it was Randy.
Good hang, and we traded some great Seaver stories. Â Tommy you gotta write yours up for the class.
“So what did you guys talk about?” Â Exactly what you’d think. Â Blogs, hanging, nothing, Mets. Â Fun time.
WSJ NY has a fun article about a one-appearance Mets pitcher Mac Scarce.
I want a jersey. Â Mets By the Numbers says he wore #33.
Off to lunch? Â Where? Â Check @metspolice or @matthewcerrone
See you there?
Michael emailed this, I think it’s worth considering today. Â I know Kiner & Murphy have been honored at Shea/Citi, but is there really such a thing as too much love?
I’d love to see at least one more round of appreciation for Kiner while he’s healthy enough to let us thank him. Â Here’s Michael:
Hey Shannon,
I caught the Reds broadcast of the Mets game last night. On the façade located under the Press Box in Great American Ball Park, in addition to the retired jersey numbers for Fred Hutchinson (1), Johnny Bench (5), Joe Morgan (8), Sparky Anderson (10), Dave Concepcion (13), Ted Kluzewski (18), Frank Robinson (20) and Tony Perez (24) (and of course Jackie Robinson’s 42; and also, of course, not having 14 for Peter Rose), they have “retired†microphones with the name of their Ford Frick HOF announcers Waite Hoyt, Joe Nuxhall and Marty Brennaman.
Why don’t the Mets have a similar “retired†microphone on the wall for their HOF announcers Lindsey Nelson and Bob Murphy (and, in my opinion, they should also have Ralph Kiner , too)
…
Vaguely related: Tim McCarver seems disliked by many fans these days. Â In the 1980’s when his insights were fresh (there was a time when not making the second out at third base was a new idea) he was considered one of the best announcers in the game, and a keeper of the Mets tradition of good broadcasting. Â Funny how his stock has gone down, and his work on Fox seems unliked by modern day Mets fans.
