Life Without Yankees (Pictures)

WCBS has an excellent gallery of photos of Yankee Stadium.

I was driving up the Harlem River Drive last night and it looked really weird to see the new stadium lit up but the old stadium was dark – not lit at all, it was weird to look over as if the stadium wasn’t there.

I’m hoping I come into a few billion dollars today so I can buy the Yankees and move them back across the street.   What a shame.  Or maybe I’ll buy the Mets and move them to Los Angeles.

Yankee Stadium Renovation: Obviously Impossible

There’s a new site to keep an eye on:  Demolition of Yankee Stadium.

They are a little too paranoid about photo sharing but it’s worth a visit.

More interesting than seeing the stadium torn down is this gallery of the 1973 Reconstruction.   They have some of the best photos I’ve seen.

Why the Yankees didn’t take one more stab at rebuilding the old girl rather moving to the lemon across the street is beyond me.   I guess the Red Sox have better engineers.

Even though the Royals just did it, and the Yankees did it themselves in the 70’s, apparently there is no way to renovate a baseball stadium.

The Yankees could have built stuff on the first base side (between the stadium and Lot 8) and could have gutted the old Loge level for skyboxes.  We didn’t really need a steakhouse nor a Johnny Rockets.   Wouldn’t you rather have the idea that Gehrig stood more or less right ‘there’ or that Maris homered over ‘there?’

What a shame.

41,210 at Wrigley yesterday; 37, 825 at Fenway.  (39,396 at Mets Field and the Yankees were on the road.)

Official Yankee Stadium Home Run Watch?

Really?  MLB.com has a page for the Home Run Watch?  As if it’s a good thing that the stadium is a lemon?
