Some Hints About The Final Games At The Stadiums

Published: September 17, 2008
The Yankees and the Mets have said little, if anything, about their plans to say farewell to their old stadiums.

One part of Sunday’s pregame ceremony will be the introduction of Yankees greats who will go to their former positions; those who have died will be represented by family members. One of Mickey Mantle’s sons, Danny or David, could be in center field, and one of Roger Maris’s sons could be in right.

After the Florida-Mets afternoon game on Sept. 28, the Mets plan to bring back 45 former players, including Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza, for a celebration called Shea Goodbye.

Congrats To Jeter On The Yankee Stadium Hit Record

A little late on this but sometimes I have to file reports at the Daily Planet and sometimes I have to walk Krypto…but congratulations to Derek Jeter for getting the most hits at Yankee Stadium (ok pretend for a second it’s actually the same stadium.)

This is no small feat.   Think of the hundreds of players that have played for the Yankees.  Some lousy players sure, but also some pretty goods, some greats and some hall of famers.   Any time you pass Gehrig in anything it’s an accomplishment.  Nice job by the Captain.  Congrats.

>So Who Should Be The Field Of Dreams Team At Yankee Stadium?

>When stadiums close there is an often a ceremony where the greatest living (and retired) players take their positions one last time.

Who do you think should take the field at the Yankee game on Sunday?

One man’s list:

C: Yogi
1B: Donnie Baseball has a game so call Tino. Sorry Pepitone.
2B: Please welcome back our old friend Willie Randolph
SS: Too bad Scooter didn’t make it. Bucky Dent.
3B: Nettles
LF: They ain’t gonna invite Winfield so it’s um……..
CF: Well unless Joe D or Mantke have a surprise..it’s Bernie
RF: Paulie O should be in the Hall but it will be Reggie
P: Whitey Ford. Check the nickname. Plus we can’t have everyone out there from 1977.

Feel encouraged to complain about this list and remind me of 98 year old guys I forgot.
