METS TO CELEBRATE HISPANIC HERITAGE NIGHT ! AND ROBERTO CLEMENTE DAY AT CITI FIELD

FLUSHING, N.Y., September 13, 2023 – The New York Mets will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Night  and Roberto Clemente Day on Friday, September 15 at Citi Field. Gates will open to all fans at 5:10 p.m. as the Mets take on the Cincinnati Reds at 7:10 p.m.

Earlier this year, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation funded a $30,000 grant to Thrive Collective, a New York based non-profit whose mission is to create hope and opportunity through arts, sports and mentoring in and around public schools. Thrive’s core programs – Murals, Music, Media, Mentors and Sports – connect artists, youth workers and volunteers with local schools as teaching artists, art directors, coaches and mentors. The Mets are excited to collaborate with Thrive and host artist Maria “Toofly” Castillo to create a public arts mural with our fans at Citi Field. Castillo was raised in Corona, Queens after arriving with her family from Ecuador and she is honored to be returning to Queens for this special fan engagement.

As part of the Mets Community Hero Program, the Mets will recognize staff from the Tacombi Foundation during a special pregame ceremony as the night’s Community Hero. The Tacombi Foundation distributes wholesome Mexican meals through their Community Kitchen Program and has distributed over 800,000 meals to people in need since 2020. They work with over 40 community partners to provide more than 9,000 meals every week. To support their efforts, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation has also awarded them a $25,000 grant.

Prior to the start of the game, there will be a Latinos in Sports panel with industry professionals from the Mets, MLB, NBA, and NFL, who will be speaking to students about sports and the remarkable contributions of Latinos in the sports world. Additionally, there will be a Mariachi performance by J. Arturo Torres on Mets Plaza before the game.

Citi Field will feature two local Queens small businesses throughout Hispanic Heritage Month with menu items from Arepa Lady and Casa Adela.

The National Anthem will be performed by trumpeter, Luis Ramirez. Ramirez is the founder and director of A Latin Movement, a band that brings cultures and musical styles together and features some of New York City’s renowned Latin and Jazz musicians.

Mets to have New new new new new new new winning culture under David Stearns, this time for real!

Good news everyone!  The Mets are reportedly hiring David Stearns to be President of Baseball Operations.

How exciting…

Oh man, a World Series within 5 years!  That’s great!  It’s great to have an adult in the room and a new culture of winning!

Well except for this…

Or this…

or this guy you forgot about

which led to this emergency new culture

or this…

…which led to this emergency new culture

which all came after this…

So don’t get too mad at me if I am not as excited as the mainstream media.  I feel like I have heard this story half a dozen times – and if only the Wilpons would sell, Steve would run a good business and we’d be winning championships and the t-shirt section wouldn’t be half empty Saturday night because the fanbase is kinda done with all this.

I don’t know much about Stearns but I can tell already he plays nice with the media because of the way they were fawning over him.  I’m surprised one person in particular didn’t dust off the word Hodges again (man that was a career low) his praise was so glowing.

I don’t know anything about Stearns but from what I read he was a cuddly kid Mets fan who every night snuck off to his room to listen to Mets games on his walkman because his mom put him to bed at 8pm or something and he couldn’t just watch the games until 10pm like a normal person.    He also won six world championships while running the famous baseball powerhouse, the Brewers.

So this is a great hire.  The Mets are totally going to win a World Series within 5 years, just like Steve promised 3 years ago and those first 3 years don’t count.  Don’t ask questions and just kneel before Steve’s wisdon and one playoff victory so far

Mr. Met took his cap off

Last night, Mr. Met took his cap off during the game.

I am a still image.

I always thought the cap was part of the main head of the costue, but I guess now that I think about it, sometimes Mr. Met does wear a black cap so they are clearly swappable.

But it appears to come off somewhat easily, so now I am surprised that rubes don’t constantly try to knock it off his head and/or steal it.  Fortunately, Mets fans are well behaved.

The Mets will #WearTheCaps

The Mets will hold a special pregame ceremony to honor the memory and victims of those who perished on September 11, 2001 and from injuries sustained in responding to the crisis…First responders from across the area will be involved to help commemorate the day…Mike Piazza, will hold a pregame press conference at time to be determined…The New York Mets will wear first responder caps during the game…Caps from the FDNY, NYPD, Port Authority Police Department, Department of Sanitation and Department of Correction will all be represented to commemorate their bravery and sacrifice.

It’s nice to see that after 20 years of madness someone figured out the caps thing.

I wish they’d sell us replica versions of the home N E W Y O R K jerseys.
