Carlos Beltran: Will this guy manage the 2024 Mets? No.

Former Wilpons Intern David Stearns remembers his boss Jeff from the photo above.  He also likely remembers Carlos Beltran who managed the Mets for 3 minutes and 24 seconds at some point (someone fact check that)

There may have been a scenario where Beltran could have gotten a chance, but the word “investigation” was thrown around Queens last week, and the last thing Steve needs is to bring in someone who has been to Houston.  Now, eventually everyone is going to realize Former Wilpons Intern David Stearns has also been to Houston, but the Mets Beat has ignored that so far.  Or at least they had at the time I wrote this.  Maybe they are talking about it now.

Terry Collins: Will this guy manage the 2024 Mets? No.

So far we’ve discussed….

How Steve Cohen seems to want to be George Steinbrenner, who would recycle managers….

….and how the manager is going to have to do whatever Former Wilpons Intern David Stearns says (aka a Patsy)…

.That ruled out Bobby V and Wally…..but what about Terry Collins, who it turned out was NOT Colactus: Destroyer of Teams.  I mentioned how what Steve needs is someone who will avoid controversies,  can handle the media, and doesn’t have any scandals.  Why not return to Terry Collins?  He’s still around, and is a Met In Good Standing.

Well, he’s 74 now, and the Mets are always about the New Culture. Former Wilpons Intern David Stearns wasn’t even born yet when Terry was managing the Mets (someone factcheck that, it seems off) so he probably isn’t familiar with him.

And and and, let’s not forget Terry was at the helm when you all got high on the idea of a Nohan t-shirt and let the ace throw 217 pitches (someone fact check that too) – which as you know, had nothing to do with Santana’s career being wrecked….THAT was because he rolled his ankle two weeks later, or so I am told.

Anyway, will Terry Collins manage the Mets? No.

Bobby Valentine: Will this guy manage the 2024 Mets? No

Uncle Steve Cohen Steinbrenner obviously wants to be like Saint George, the kindly old man who just wanted to win a World Series.  So why not go to Saint George’s bag of tricks and rehire an old manager?

With Billy Eppler gone, the Mets need someone to take over Billy’s role of “Guy who knows Japanese stuff” and who knows Japan better than Bobby V.

Well guys, Bobby V is 73 now and likes to remind everyone he’s the smartest one in the room – so if you think he’s gonna fill out lineup cards by taking suggestions from Former Wilpons Intern David Stearns…..you got another thing coming.

Will Bobby V manage the Mets? No.

Baseball Is Back! Except for the part where the playoff TV ratings were down

Per Sports Media Watch…

Overall, viewership declined for all six windows that can be compared to last year.

..

As previously noted, regular season viewership was down on ESPN and TBS this season. Averages for FOX will be posted when available.

Now this being baseball, there are always excuses.  You know, the wrong teams were in, and its hard to watch daytime baseball (I say this all summer and get mocked for saying it) and whatever other excuses the baseball mafira wants t make, but let’s face it Down Is Down.

I think Phillies-Braves will do OK, and the winner of that vs. the Dodgers would do OK.   The AL side is a mess.

Let’s see how MLB does today taking on College Football which is having a nice year.  It’s raining in the Northeast, so that might help.

Wally Backman: Will this guy manage the 2024 Mets? No

Well, much sooner than later, it’s time to bring back the “Will this guy manage the Mets?….No” series (thank you @ceetar for the original idea) in which we will look at the daily rumors over the next few weeks as the Mets aren’t supposed to (allowed?) to make big announcements during the playoffs.

Wally Backman.  No longer managing the Ducks.  Had a MLBmanager’s job for 5 minutes once like often mentioned candidate Carlos Beltran.

Ties to 86.  Fans love a gritty no BS manager.

Could Wally Backman manage the Mets?  No.  Steve has had a caper filled week, and the last few GM hires have been disasters.  What Steve needs is someone steady who will keep things calm…..a Buck Showalter type.   Wait, which idiot fired Buck Showalter?  Surely not Former Wilpons Intern Davod Stearns!  He didn’t start until Monday so it definitely wasn’t him.

Anyway, parts of Wally’s bio are a little too colorful for what the Mets need right now, so – No.  Wally Backman will not manage the Mets.
