Mets changed their profile picture to…. a Mets logo?

Scully look at this…

Oh hey Mulder, I thought you weren’t doing this any more since Javy Baez booed the fans and not a single Met, not Jacob deGrom, not Pete Alonso, not one of them said that was wrong.

While an important point Scully, look at this…

Well Mulder, I don’t see anything suspicious about that.

That’s the thing Scully.  It’s weird.  Since when do the Mets just promote the Mets?  There is always some sort of angle or they are jumping on the latest social media trend pretending they care about something when in reality they probably don’t.

Mulder, that’s very cynical.

Scully – it’s a Mets logo.  A few days before Halloween.  Why not a Mets pumpkin or something?

I don’t know Mulder.  What do YOU think it means?

I’m not sure Scully, but I am sure Paul Lukas or one his readers on Uni Watch will pick up on whatever they are up to.  I bet there’s some sort of minor tweak to the ball logo that I am not seeing.  The Truth Is Out There Scully.  The Mets rarely do anything just to celebrate the Mets of it all.  There has to be an ulterior motive.

What was it before Mulder?

Well, it’s been all sorts of things.  Here look…

Well Mulder, it looks like it’s been the ball logo before.  I think you might be crazy.

Perhaps Scully.  Perhaps.

Keep them distracted while we work on the new fonts.

Darren Meenan. Will this guy manage the Mets? No.

Since the lineups get made by the accountants upstairs, maybe what the Mets need to do is admit the manager’s job is one of marketing…so why not turn to the best marketer in Flushing?

Darren is charismatic and has proven that he can handle the media.  The fans like him.  We could pair him up with an old crusty bench coach type to remind him to warm someone up in the bullpen and things like that.  If the DH comes to the NL the game kind if runs itself anyway.

My only concern is that he would have to divest himself of the t-shit business.  I would worry that he’d let a pitcher with shoulder issues throw 134 pitches just so everyone could get t-shirts…and that’s the sort of thing that can set a franchise back for at least a decade.

As crazy as this sounds, remember the Mets hired an agent to be the general manager once, so why not let The T-Shirt Guy Manage the Mets?

That said, I don’t think the Mets are thinking this progressively.

Will Darren Meenan manage the Mets? No.

Aaron Boone. Will this guy manage the Mets? No.

The entire point of this “Will this guy manage the Mets” series is to make fun of all the dopey articles everyone else writes.  Sandy Alderson plays everything close to the vest and nobody knows anything.  Need an example, here’s Sports Illustrated from October 15th.  Their headline, “Could Yankees’ Aaron Boone be Mets manager candidate?”

Could is a powerful word, SNY loves to use it in their garbage filler.

SI writes…

I was talking to a rival GM on Friday who opined that if the Yankees moved on from Aaron Boone, he would have a very easy time getting another job.

Why not the Mets? He is seasoned and polished in the New York market, a strong collaborator with the contemporary front office, and loved by players.

That article came out on a Friday.  The Yankees announced Boone would be coming back on Tuesday.  At least I admit my articles are filler.

Will Aaron Boone manage the Mets?  No.

Bobby Valentine. Will this guy manage the Mets? No.

Bobby Valentine.  Former Mets player, former Mets manager.  Very popular with the black uniform crowd.   He has also finished in first place as many times as I have (look it up!).

These days he is running for mayor of Stamford!

Two of Mr. Valentine’s most prominent donors also dismissed him as a baseball manager: Mr. Bush with the Rangers and Larry Lucchino, the former president and chief executive of the Red Sox. The former baseball commissioner Fay Vincent gave to Mr. Valentine, who received the endorsement of police union leaders and the Republican candidate, who dropped out of the race in September. (via NY Times)

He’s also likely to win the election….so will Bobby Valentine manage the Mets? No.

Ron Gardenhire. Will this guy manage the Mets? No.

As a boy, I attended a Mets game and my friend and I got to meet Ron Gardenhire.  He was nice and we asked him to hit a home run for us.  He did not, so then we didn’t like him under the rules of unfair Kid Logic.

Ron went on to manage for 16 seasons. more often good than bad.  The 114 loss season with the 2019 Tigers does drag his record down a bit, but I see a lot of 90+ win seasons with the Twins, a team they tried to contact.

He’s 63 and a former Met.  Wouldn’t be the worst idea…but this is the Mets who will surely pick The Worst Idea.

Will Ron Gardenhire manage the Mets? No.
