10 million star Review of the 1986 Mets 30 for 30

Stop everything in your life and watch the 30 for 30 about the 1986 Mets.

I know I have said on here that I am sick of talking about 1986, but this is so much more. We start in 1962 but pretty quickly get to 1977 which is when I started with all this. You know the story, they trade Seaver, the Mets suck for years

But as one voice points out, 1986 isn’t just about 1986, it’s the final piece of a trilogy that starts with 1984 and then adds Gary Carter for the 1985 version and then we get Metsvengers Endgame in 1986.

What thrilled me was – I think he’s the first voice we hear, and we hear from him a lot – hearing Greg Prince. That screamed to me THEY GET IT. Greg is one of us and he knows more about this team than just about anyone, Jay Horwitz possibly maybe knowing more. Maybe.

So we start out in great hands and as I mentioned on twitter, I wish the actual Mets Organziation understood themselves as well as this doc. This was My Mets that basically haven’t existed since Jeff Wilpon added black to the color scheme.

Along the way so many memories. As I also mentioned on twitter, seeing a fly out to Andy Van Slyke for the first time in 36 years – wow that brought me right back. The Eric Davis fight and Gary Carter at third.

Hoping the millennials can see the clips of Keith Hernandez playing defense. Hearing Keith’s teammates talk about Keith. Wondering why Keith’s 17 isn’t being retired before the end of this paragraph.

Hearing how great Bob Murphy was on calls. The sound of Gary Thorne (told ya!). Texting a friend that Steve Zabriskie is forgotten and deserves better.

And a trip back to the seedy NYC of the 80s where we didn’t have Disney in Times Square and the subway was an adventure.

I was wide awake and high on Mets well past 11pm. I missed my dad.

I’m sad I can’t watch tonight (plans) but cannot wait to see episodes 3 and 4.

If you’re a regular reader of the blog you probably understand my world view on the Mets. Or maybe you’re one of those young whippersnappers who thinks I am a cranky old man. Watch this doc. Understand what things can be and have not been in a very very long time. We don’t need players who boo their own fans, we need players who want to kick the tail of the guys in the other dugout. I haven’t seen a Mets team like that in a long long time.

I give the show a rating of ten million stars out of 4. I hope the people that run the Mets watch it.

RON DARLING AND GARY COHEN SET TO APPEAR AT THE 2021 QUEENS BASEBALL CONVENTION

Uh oh, Gary Cohen?  I better get…..

….OUTTA HERE before Gary Cohen sees me.

Actually I will just wear a The7Line t-shirt, that way Gary will completely ignore my existence.  If anyone asks, I’m Darren.

This is probably @mediagoon’s way of killing me.  There’s probably some super panel with Gary, Gelbs, Mike Piazza, Pete Alonso and Steve Cohen that he wants me to moderate.  Fortunately I booked an international trip and will be in Perth Australia from the 12th to the 14th.

RON DARLING AND GARY COHEN SET TO APPEAR AT THE 2021 QUEENS BASEBALL CONVENTION

Organizers of the Queens Baseball Convention announced today that Mets broadcasters Ron Darling and Gary Cohen will be appearing live at the 2021 QBC set to be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021.

Ron Darling, former Mets pitcher and member of the 1986 World Series Championship team, will be making his second appearance at the annual event run by and for Mets fans. Darling was at the inaugural QBC in 2014.

“Ronnie was an amazing first guest back when we started the QBC” recalled co-founder Keith Blacknick. “The fans love him and we have been asked many times over the years if we could bring him back. As we restart the QBC it seemed only appropriate to have Ronnie back this year.”

Gary Cohen, who has been broadcasting Mets games since 1989, will be making not only his first QBC appearance, but his first appearance at any fan event.

“Having Gary appear with Ronnie will be a real treat for everyone who comes out on Nov. 13” stated Blacknick’s partner Dan Twohig. “Knowing that Gary has never done an event like ours before makes this even more special.”

Darling and Cohen will be appearing together on a panel and will be doing a Q&A with those attending. Following the Q&A will be an autograph session where fans can get either or both of their signatures. (Pricing to be announced at a later date).

Blacknick and Twohig stated that more guests would be added in the coming weeks.

In addition to appearances, panels, and autograph sessions, the QBC will also include panels on other fan and Mets related topics, as well as a host of vendors.

Ticket and autograph pricing will be announced soon with tickets going on sale in the coming weeks . For more information or for inquiries, please email us at [email protected], or follow us on social media (Twitter @QBConvention or Facebook www.facebook.com/QueensBaseballConvention)

ABOUT THE QBC
Founded in 2013, the Queens Baseball Convention was created as a mid-winter gathering of fans of the New York Mets. Our design is a combination of “Fan Fest” meets “Comic Con.” Since its start it has grown into the largest fan-run fan fest in the New York area.

Topps issues custom set for the 1986 Mets 30 for 30!

It is a lovely day here at MPHQ.   The New York Post is burying Pete Alonso.  People are catching on to Donald Trump supporter Mike Piazza’s political views.  AND I can watch Mets baseball tonight (the 30 for 30) without watching those horrible losers the 2021 Mets who boo their fans.

Topps has some more good news!

Following the documentary’s scheduled release dates/times (tonight and Wednesday night), this is a four-part trading card set that captures the 1986 New York Mets championship season and the players that made it such a magical, and at times chaotic, campaign, as well as two of the documentary’s executive producers – Jimmy Kimmel and Sal “Cousin Sal” Iacono.

The first sets issued today at noon ET and are available for one week.

Wednesday’s card set will post at noon ET, available until Weds., Sept. 22.

Each set of 10 cards will be available beginning on each original air date and time, for a one-week period. Fans may purchase in sets of 10 during each sale window. Featured Mets players in the set include Gary Carter, Dwight Gooden, Lenny Dykstra, Darryl Strawberry, Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling and more.

And remember, don’t watch the horrible people on the 2021 Mets when you can watch the differently troubled folks from the 1986 Mets.
