Los Mets jerseys return Thursday

Well, the Mets surprised us by wearing blue BP jerseys in Game 2 and…

FLUSHING, N.Y., August 29, 2011 – The New York Mets today announced they will host Hispanic Heritage Night Presented by Goya Foods to celebrate Latino culture and Goya’s 75th anniversary this Thursday, September 1 when the Mets play the Florida Marlins at 7:10 p.m. at Citi Field.

The night’s festivities will feature New York salsa band “La Evidencia” performing on Mets Plaza before the game with the Kips Bay dancers of the Boys & Girls Club. An authentic Mariachi band will perform at the top of the Jackie Robinson Rotunda pre-game to continue the celebration and kick off Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins September 15 and lasts through October 15.

Fans will be entertained by a pre-game on-field performance by The Goya All-Star Dancers, a team of professional salsa dancers including Ismael Otero, Eleanee Jimenez, Cesar Carrasco, Ron Prokopez, Omar Ayala, Miriam Arenas, Franck Muhel, Tina Torres, Carlos Borges and choreographed and lead by MC Joey Corsica.

Mets players will wear blue “Los Mets” jerseys for the game.

Goya Foods’ Nicole Toro will sing the national anthem while Anthony Yorio will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. “El Bacan Bacan” Pedro Luis Garcia will make public address announcements in Spanish throughout the game.

Mets Wearing Their BLUE BP Jerseys

Reyes is back and the Mets are wearing their BLUE Batting Practice Jersey during the second game of the double header. Thanks to @sclevine on twitter for the heads up.

From Adam Rubin over at ESPN NY

For the second time this season, the Mets are wearing blue uniforms. This time, though, it really is just their warm-up jersey.

On Aug. 5, for Fiesta Latina, the Mets trotted out new blue uniforms (pictured above), which they likely will make part of their regular rotation in 2013. The Mets are not allowed to wear the new uniforms for two seasons because they must be submitted to MLB by May of the previous season. (Full explanation here.)

“These are our BP jerseys, which MLB permits the teams to where in games,” a team official said about the attire for Game 2 of Monday’s doubleheader. “Just mixing it up a little bit.”

Shannon: Here’s the blue from the 80’s which of course looks better because the letters are not black.
