When Chevy Chase wore a Mets cap in Funny Farm

I do not remember this film, but what kind of sportswriter walks around in a Mets cap in real life?  Who is this guy, Oscar Madison?  No rooting in the press box!  Do you think Gary Cohen calls a play more loudly when the Mets are having a rall…..hold on someone is passing me a note.

It’s easy enough to see why Funny Farm underperformed in the face of all that competition. The idea of New York sportswriter Andy Farmer (Chase) decamping for the country to write his novel, only to find himself ill-prepared for life in small-town Redbud, Vermont, sounds a bit like off-brand Clark Griswold. Mets to celebrate Pride Night by not wearing special uniforms

My friends the Mets wanted to get all the sponsor mentions in and let you know about the below.  It appears they choose not to wear special uniforms no special caps.  Go all in Mets.  This is New York, we can handle some rainbow no matter who is on the board of directors.

METS TO CELEBRATE FIFTH PRIDE NIGHT AT CITI FIELD ON JUNE 25

FLUSHING, N.Y., June 23, 2021 – The New York Mets will host their fifth Pride Night at Citi Field on June 25 when they take on the Philadelphia Phillies in a doubleheader starting at 4:10pm. Gates will open to all fans at 3:10pm.

Pride Night will be a celebration of the many New Yorkers and others who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. The Coca-Cola sign above right field will be illuminated in the Pride Rainbow and in-game programming will be focused on celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. In addition, the first 12,000 fans in attendance will receive an exclusive Mets Pride T-Shirt, provided by Citi.

A special pregame ceremony will take place during the National Anthem as members of the LGBT Network participate in an on-field flag presentation. The Anthem will be performed by Donna Vivino, an American musical theatre actress who was most recently seen as Grizabella in Cats on the 2020 national tour.

In between games, Callen-Lorde Community Health Center will be honored as the Mets community hero of the day. Callen-Lorde provides sensitive, quality health care and related services targeted to New York LGBTQ communities, in all their diversity, regardless of ability to pay.

Tickets in the Big Apple Reserved section are being sold exclusively for Pride Night. These tickets are $40 with $5 from each ticket sold going to the LGBT Network, a non-profit that funds community centers and programming with resources for the LGBT Community throughout Long Island and Queens. The Mets and LGBT Network have partnered to bring New Yorkers Pride Night since 2016. Tickets can be purchased at mets.com/pride.

Uni Watch: Gary and Keith discuss NOBs

Uni Watch has a nice recap of a uniform based conversation Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez had on Sunday.  The topic, adding first initials to names on the back.

Hernandez [cutting him off]: I don’t know. I have a hard enough time, Gary, you know, doing my job. I can’t worry about these little details.

Cohen: But this is part of your job, worrying about these little details. And it’s part of my job to bug you about these little details.

Hernandez [audibly annoyed]: As far as I’m concerned, it is not part of analysis.

There’s much more to it, I just chose to excerpt the curmudgeon part.  Anyway, I feel like at one point Keith had a “K. Hernandez” jersey but perhaps I imagined it because the only other Hernandez that played during Keith’s tenure was Manny Hernandez on 9/16/89 for his one inning Mets career.

But who knows, maybe there was a K. Hernandez jersey that night.  Or maybe I am just thinking of the D. Johnson an H. Johnson stuff.

Anyway, go to Uni Watch…read the story.

Which one of us will tell Jacob deGrom he can’t pitch in the All Star Game?

So the Mets aren’t crazy enough to let JDG throw in the All Star Game, are they?

I’m also not sure who from the Mets even SHOULD go.  I was all set to tell Jake to stay home and let Stroman go…..but after last night, who knows?

None of the position players deserve it.

Tijuan Walker?

Someone like…as Brodie laughs…..Sugar Diaz? (I didn’t bother to look at the closer stats)

Am I forgetting someone having an awesome season?

Which All Star jersey will Media Goon buy?

Do we let deGrom take a nice trip and sit on the bench and we have one of those weird years where no Mets play in the game?

What do you think?

Pete Alonso Benched Mets Game Notes for June 22

C Patrick Mazeika has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse.

INF/OF Brandon Drury has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

RHP Robert Stock has been claimed from the Chicago Cubs and has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

Vulgar Pete Alonso is not in today’s starting lineup.

It is wet out, I sure hope The Big Zero doesn’t have problems with his grip all of a sudden, that would be weird.

Stroman has allowed only 14 extra-base hits in 84.1 innings, the second-fewest among the 49 pitchers in the majors who have thrown at least 75.0 innings this season…Only Brandon Woodruff (12) has allowed fewer…Ranks 15th in the majors and 11th in the NL in opponent slugging (.325)…He has four starts this season in which he’s pitched at least 5.0 innings without allowing a single extra-base hit, tied for the second-most in the majors.

Everyday 1B Dominic Smith recorded his 100th career extra-base hit in game one yesterday…He has 11 RBI in June after having eight RBI in both April and May…He had four extra-base hits this April, five in May and now has six so far in June…Smith is batting .346/.356/.475 in 20 games this month.
