1971 Mets Ad as seen in Apple Music Documentary

To all you fathers out there, happy birthday….

I was watching this documentary on Apple about the music of 1971 and in one of the scenes this caught my eye….

It’s a little hard to see on the still but that red cicada thing I believe is the top half of a 9 and what you’re looking at is an ad to watch Mets games on Channel 9.  Come to think of it, I don’t think I have watched channel 9 since they stopped showing Mets games.

Lucchesi to IL, completely unrelated to that and JDG the Mets acquired a SP

Nothing to see here.

LHP Joey Lucchesi has been placed on the 10-day IL with left elbow inflammation.

OF Albert Allmora Jr. has been reinstated from the 10-Day IL.

METS ACCQUIRE MINOR LEAGUE PITCHER TROY MILLER

FLUSHING, N.Y., June 19, 2021 – The New York Mets today announced they have acquired right-handed pitcher Troy Miller from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jacob Barnes. The Mets designated Barnes for assignment on June 14.

Miller, 24, has made six starts (seven games) between New Hampshire (AA) and Vancouver (High-A) and is 3-2 with a 4.93 ERA (19 earned runs/34.2 innings) with 15 walks and 33 strikeouts.

The 6-4, 210-pounder was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018. He played three years at the University of Michigan after graduating from Soquel High School in California.

Barnes appeared in 19 games for the Mets this season, going 1-1 with a 6.27 ERA (13 earned runs/18.2 innings) with five walks and 18 strikeouts. He was claimed by the Mets on October 30, 2020 off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels.

Mets proud to have Joey Lucchesi pitching tonight, no mention of Juneteenth

The Mets are proud to announce Joey Lucchesi is set to make his eighth start and 11th appearance of the season tonight…He has put up a 1.56 ERA (three earned runs/17.1 innings) over his last four starts, allowing four walks and striking out 19 in that span since May 22…His 1.56 ERA in that span is tied for 10th in the majors and seventh in the NL…He has made two starts this month and is 0-1 with a 1.86 ERA (tow earned runs/9.2 innings) with a walk and nine strikeouts.

STAY CHURVY: Lucchesi’s signature churve has been effective during his 10 appearances, generating a whiff rate of 37.0 percent…He has only allowed eight hits off the pitch in 43 plate appearances ending with the pitch, with batters generating a .186 BAA…He has struck out 17 batters with the pitch, tossing it 36.9 percent of the time…It has averaged 78.6 mph and is hit hard only 33.3 percent of the time.

SWISS ARMY KNIFE JOEY: When coming out of the pen this year, Lucchesi owns a 5.14 ERA (four earned runs/7.1 innings)…Opponents have hit .231 when facing him in relief and he has totaled eight punch outs and allowed six hits in three games…As a starter, he has totaled 26.0 innings with a 5.19 ERA (15 earned runs/26.0 innings), a .255 BAA and 28 strikeouts…He is currently ranked fifth in total innings for the Mets (33.0 IP).

HAPPY CHURVE DAY: Lucchesi gained fame for a pitch he calls a “churve”… He holds it deep in his palm like a classic circle changeup, and for most of his college career, that’s all it was – a basic changeup…Early in his pro career, he began tinkering with his wrist action as he threw it, snapping off the pitch like a breaking ball…It soon became his go-to putaway weapon…The pitch generated a 47.3 percent whiff rate in 2020 and a whiff rate of at least 41.4 percent in all four of his big league seasons.

Make sure you wear you Churve Symbol Gear so everyone knows which side you’re on!  Represent.

OF Michael Conforto is on a rehab assignment with the Syracuse Mets (AAA)…He went 0-4 with two strikeouts and played 5.0 innings in right field…Overall, he is 1-7 with a run…He has been on the 10-day IL since May 17 with a strained right hamstring…INF Jeff McNeil is on a rehab assignment with the Syracuse Mets…He started at second base last night and went 1-4 with two strikeouts…He has appeared in four games between Brooklyn and Syracuse and is 4-12 with two run, a double and an RBI…McNeil has been on the IL since May 17 with a strained left hamstring…RHP Dellin Betances is currently on a rehab appearance with the St. Lucie Mets (A)…He has appeared in two games, allowing five earned runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 1.1 innings…He has been on the 60-Day IL since April 24 with a right shoulder impingement…OF Albert Almora Jr. is currently on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse…He is 6-26 with three runs, two doubles, a home run, three walks and two RBI in eight games on his rehab assignment…Almora Jr. has been on the 10-Day IL since May 12 with a left shoulder contusion.

Dominic Smith is 4-11 with four runs, a double, two home runs, three RBI, three walks, a .533 OBP, a .1.000 SLG and a 1.533 OPS over his last four games…He owns an .856 OPS in 15 games this month.

Pete Alonso sometimes hits home runs on the road.  That’s not true at home, where he has hit home run, singular.  Fortunately for Pete he’s out of Citi Field.

As of 5:08pm I don’t believe the Mets have acknowledged Juneteenth. Hopefully I am wrong.

Review: 2021 Mets July 4 cap

I hadn’t bought a cap in a bit and I thought this years July 4 cap had a nice design and I like America and all so I got one

It actually came with two days – I guess that’s New Era vs Fanatics for ya. I don’t mind / slightly like the NYC thing on the side as something different. But also having the New Era logo on the other side is a bit much.

Low crown. Nice dark color so it will go with more things that I wear. Fits well.

I recommend this cap.

Touch your caps, touch your pant leg, It’s Big Zero Mets Game Notes

So I think it is odd (suspicious) the Mets didn’t mention JDG’s injury/phantom mystery in the game notes.  Usually they provide such updates.  For example….

OF Michael Conforto began a rehab assignment with the Syracuse Mets (AAA) yesterday…He went 1-3 with a run, starting in centerfield and playing 5.0 innings there…He has been on the 10-day IL since May 17 with a strained right hamstring…INF Jeff McNeil is on a rehab assignment with the Syracuse Mets… He played 7.0 innings at second base last night and went 2-4 with a run, a double and RBI…He has appeared in three games between Brooklyn and Syracuse and is 3-8 with two run, a double and an RBI…McNeil has been on the IL since May 17 with a strained left hamstring…RHP Dellin Betances is currently on a rehab appearance with the St. Lucie Mets (A)…He has appeared in two games, allowing five earned runs on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 1.1 innings…He has been on the 60-Day IL since April 24 with a right shoulder impingement…OF Albert Almora Jr. is currently on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse…He is 4-21 with three runs, a double, a home run, two walks and two RBI in seven games on his rehab assignment…Almora Jr. has been on the 10-Day IL since May 12 with a left shoulder contusion.

The Mets are seeking their fifth sweep of the season today…The Mets are looking for their first four-game sweep of the Cubs since June 30-July 3, 2016 in New York…That was also the last time the Mets swept the Cubs in a series of any length.

: Marcus Stroman’s 2.33 ERA (20 earned runs/77.1 innings) through 13 starts this season is his best 13-start stretch by that measure in his career…He has allowed two earned runs or fewer and pitched 5.0 innings or more in 10 of his 13 starts this year, tied for the fifth-most in the NL…Stroman has completed at least 6.0 innings in each of his last seven starts…That is the longest streak of his career…Stroman has a 2.49 ERA (12 earned runs/43.1 innings) over this stretch.  Let’s see how he does next week.  Nudge nudge.

Dominic Smith is 4-9 with four runs, a double, two home runs, three RBI, two walks, a .583 OBP, a .1.222 SLG and a 1.806 OPS over his last four games…In 13 career games against the Cubs, Smith owns a .289/.372/.658 slash line with seven runs, two doubles, four home runs, six RBI, three walks and a 1.030 OPS… His four home runs against the Cubs are tied with Arizona for the most outside the NL East.

THIS DAY IN METS HISTORY: On this day in 1997, Jae Weong Seo, David Weathers and Armando Benitez combined to one-hit the Marlins in Miami…The Mets collected nine hits as they defeated Florida, 5-0, in a game that lasted just 2:17…Seo allowed the only hit and struck out four in his 6.2 innings of work…He improved to 5-2 on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.66…Jeromy Burnitz and Ty Wigginton both homered for the team…For cool photos and interactive history information on the Mets, please visit the Mets Virtual Vault at metsheritage.com.
