Mets Caps Are Not Popular Among Criminals

I thought I’d flip the headline.  Why should it be all about the Yankees?

Since 2000, more than 100 people who have been suspects or persons of interest in connection with serious crimes in New York City wore Yankees apparel at the time of the crimes or at the time of their arrest or arraignment. The tally is based on a review of New York Police Department news releases, surveillance video and images of robberies and other crimes, as well as police sketches and newspaper articles that described suspects’ clothing. No other sports team comes close.

The Mets, forever in the shadow of their Bronx rivals, are perhaps grateful to be losing this one: only about a dozen people in the same review were found to be wearing Mets gear.

(Los) Mets try for 6 straight games in pinstripes

Last night the Mets wore pinstriped jerseys with blue caps for the 5th straight game.

I have no explanation for this statistical aberration, after all white pinless is the official primary jersey, but I am enjoying it. The Mets have tricked me into watching games again. I now tune in every night to see what they are wearing.

The Mets will wear Los Mets jerseys tonight. Long time readers know my feelings (In a nutshell it’s ugly, Mexican league teams don’t do it, Nueva York road jerseys would make more sense): I hate them. (For more on the subject, and another view, check out this guest post from Randy who writes The Apple.)

However, there is for once a silver lining to Los Mets. The 2010 Los Mets jerseys have been pinstriped this season.

It’s possible that the Mets will whip up some pinless or even black Los Mets jerseys (let’s not even think about that) but I think they will be lazy and or financially wise and roll out the pinstripes with Los. If so it will make 6 straight days of pinstripes. Let’s hope.

More Mazzilli for Mets Manager talk

Good morning Mets fans,

This time its Mets Blog who engaged in the Mazzilli for Manager talk. That’s three mentions this week coming from someone other than me!

Matt wrote, “In looking back in my notes, the people in Baltimore I talked to back then all said he was ‘creative,’ in terms of how it utilized his talent, but also a bit paranoid and snippy when dealing with reporters, which is more or less exactly how insiders described Willie Randolph.”  He adds that perhaps Lee’s time with SNY may have helped Lee the way Torre’s time as an Angels broadcaster helped Joe.

It will never happen (until I buy the team).
