METS UPDATE HEALTH AND SAFETY RULES FOR CITI FIELD

My friends the Mets sent me this groovy press release. It is unclear to me if the new safety rules include letting clearly injured pitchers make two starts and then having them throw 102 to teenagers. Will update as I learn more!

FLUSHING, N.Y., May 21, 2021 – The New York Mets today announced updated health and safety regulations for fans at Citi Field that will take effect beginning with the team’s next homestand, starting on Monday, May 24. Starting that day, fans will no longer be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test to enter Citi Field. Additionally, the Mets will open 21 seating sections to fully vaccinated fans that will be free of social-distancing rules. Those 21 sections will hold a total of 3,870 fans, bringing the total capacity at Citi Field to 12,222 fans.

Tickets in fully vaccinated fan sections are available for purchase now at Mets.com/VaccinatedSections. These sections are reserved for fans ages 16 and older who are at least 14 days removed from their final dose of any of the three COVID-19 vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson& Johnson). While seated in fully vaccinated sections, fans will not be required to wear a mask. Face coverings are still required outside of fully vaccinated sections. All fans with seats in a fully-vaccinated section must enter the ballpark through the Bullpen Gate and are responsible for providing proof of vaccination.

The Mets are offering vouchers, good for two tickets to a future Mets game (blackout dates apply), to the first 250 fans who receive either dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at Citi Field each day during the team’s next two homestands (May 24-30 and June 11-17). Fans may instead choose to receive a complimentary ticket to the game on the same day they receive the vaccine, based on availability.

Fans are encouraged to visit Mets.com/SafeAtCiti for the latest health and safety regulations in effect at Citi Field throughout the 2021 season.

Pete to IL! JDG another rehab start wait what? Mets Game Notes for May 21 vs. Miami!

Pete Alonso wondering who could have possibly gotten Chili Davis fired.

As first reported by @metspolice (go ahead and check. FIRST!)  INF Pete Alonso has been placed on the 10-Day IL, retroactive to May 19, with a right hand sprain.

Now this is interesting because now no matter what Pete does this year people will say “oh he was hurt….” just like last year didn’t count because of the pandemic.  Hopefully the Mets let Dom play some 1B and stop the madness.

When Pete wakes up on May 29th he will have 6 home runs.

RHP Tommy Hunter has been placed on the 10-Day IL, retroactive to May 19, with lower back pain.

It is a big day for @mediagoon who gets TWO new jerseys out of this!

RHP Yennsy Díaz has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse…He will wear #64

INF Brandon Drury has been selected from Triple-A Syracuse…He will wear #35

RHP Sam McWilliams has been reinstated from the Minor League IL.

LHP Daniel Zamora has been designated for assignment.

This will sound like shtick but the Mets are not sure if deGrom will pitch in Colorado or if he will make a rehab start again.  WHAT?   deGrom, who is totally healthy, may make another rehab start because he clearly showed last night he needs to work on his stuff. He’s fine. There was nothing stupid about letting him throw 102 to teenagers.

RHP Jacob deGrom made a rehab start for the St. Lucie Mets yesterday…The DeLand, FL native tossed 3.0 perfect innings and struck out eight…He tossed 41 pitches, 30 for strikes and hit 102 MPH on the radar gun…Infielder J.D. Davis batted leadoff and played third base for Syracuse (AAA) last night vs. Lehigh Valley (Phillies)…He went 1-3 in his minor league rehabilitation appearance…He has appeared in two games at Triple-A and is 1-5 with a strikeout…Davis has been on the Injured List since May 2 with a left hand sprain.

Cameron Maybin played for the Marlins from 2008-2010 after coming to the club from Detroit in a trade for Miguel Cabrera…Maybin is a lifetime .333/.393/.430 hitter vs. his former club…His .333 (45-135) average is his highest vs. any NL team…Maybin stole a base in his Mets debut on May 19…He ranks 11th among active players with 187 career steals.

Dominic Smith is 8-11 (.727) with five RBI and two walks (both intentional) with runners in scoring position since May 5…Only one player in the majors, Colorado’s Josh Fuentes, has more hits with RISP in that span and no player has hit for a higher average in those situations…Smith is batting .298/.385/.351 with six runs, three doubles, six RBI, seven walks and a .735 OPS in 17 games this month…This compares to a .222/.340/.333 slash line with four extra-base hits in 20 games in April.

Jacob deGrom totally fine, making rehab start because he’s totally fine

I don’t think it’s odd that Jacob deGrom is making a rehab start today even though it’s only been 11 days, so one missed turn, since he pitched.  Do you think its I don’t think it’s odd that Jacob deGrom is making a rehab start today?  I don’t.

Don’t you want to make sure deGrom is OK?  What do you want us to do, let him pitch twice in a row knowing he wasn’t feeling right?  Do you want us to let him throw 100mph in March?

Is it me?  It’s you, right?

Why is it odd that deGrom can pitch in the minors but not in the majors?  Why would you want him to pitch in the majors?

Sure the Mets pitchers this weekend are To Be Announced, that just means that we haven’t announced them yet.  We have plenty of pitching.  So much pitching that we don’t even need deGrom and can afford to have him throw in the minors when he could just as easily throw in the majors.  Because he’s fine. He’s totally fine.

Do you think Uncle Steve with all his billions would field a team resembling Wilpon Era June Swoons?  What’s wrong with our lineups?  I don’t think anything is wrong with our lineups.  Do you think something is wrong with our lineups?  We are in first place.  What place do you want us to be in?

And Pete Alonso is fine too.  Six home runs is a lot on May 20th.  How many home runs do you have?  Surely not six.  I’d like to see you hit six home runs?

Is it me? It’s you.

All the Mets are hurt game notes for May 19th vs. Braves

Mets Police has learned tonight’s game is at 7:20pm for some reason.  The Mets are off tomorrow because it’s really far from Atlanta to Miami and they need to rest inbetween.

OF Cameron Maybin has been selected from Triple-A Syracuse…He will wear #15, and so will Media Goon who bought yet another jersey.

RHP Taijuan Walker has been placed on the 10-Day IL, retroactive to May 18, with left side tightness, but this is the Mets so he is totally fine man.

RHP Sam McWilliams has been placed on the IL.

LHP Stephen Tarpley has been placed on the IL

David Peterson is the only available pitcher tonight and will have to pitch every inning.

My number one follower RHP Noah Syndergaard made his first minor league rehabilitation outing today for St. Lucie (A) at Palm Beach (Cardinals)…He tossed 4.0 innings and allowed one hit and struck out five…He threw 44 pitches, 36 for strikes and retired the last 11 batters he faced…Syndergaard under “Tommy John” surgery on March 26, 2020…RHP Seth Lugo started for St. Lucie (A) last night and pitched a 1-2-3 first inning at Palm Beach (Cardinals)…He threw four pitches…It was his first minor league rehabilitation outing…Lugo had a loose body in his right elbow removed on February 16…Infielder J.D. Davis batted leadoff and played 4.0 innings at third base for Syracuse (AAA) last night vs. Lehigh Valley (Phillies)…He went 0-2 with a strikeout in his first minor league rehabilitation appearance…Davis has been on the Injured List since May 2 with a left hand sprain.

The Mets have hit seven home runs over their last five games…The team hit seven home runs over their previous 13 games…The Mets are 13-9 when hitting at least one home run and 4-2 when hitting two or more bombs…The Mets have hit 29 home runs this year, the second fewest in the majors…New York hit 86 blasts in 2020, the ninth-most in the majors and the fifth most in the NL…Last year Mets hit 1.43 HR per game, the second-best mark in franchise history, this year the team has hit 0.78 HR per game, which would be the worst mark since 2014 (0.77)

M-V-Pete:  It is May 19th and Vulgar Pete Alonso leads the team in HRs with 6!

Pete Alonso | INF | .236, 6 HR, 19 RBI, 0 SB

Matt Harvey pitched against the Rays! How did he do? You’ll look!

Those pesky Orioles snuck a Harvey Day on us (is THAT what TBD means?) , and the Tampa TV didn’t show much for him in the pregame so all of a sudden we’re in the middle of the first batter and here’s Matt!

With two out a walk, but Matt has this…

…and we’re onto the second.  Look at the bottom right of the screen grab below.  See those two orange diamonds?  That’s not good.

Now you guys read these Matt Harvey posts.  What do you think is about to happen?

3-0 Rays.   Then my mom called.  Mom, I am trying to blog about Matt Harvey.

Let’s see if I can do this from memory.   Matt follows up the home run by giving up a double.  The next guy hits the ball 75 feet but it stays fair AND the runner advances.

It’s first and third and…..what do you think is going to happen?

6-0 Rays.  And then the next guy, on Matt’s 133rd pitch of the inning (approximately) gets the 7th hit of the inning (real number) and that’s it for TDK and he knows it.

The Orioles now know what the Mets, Reds, Angels, A’s (minors), Royals and all followers of my blog know – he’s fine until he isn’t.  This was all predictable tonight from the second there were two on and none out.

1.2 IP, SEVEN HITS, 6 runs all earned, a walk, a strikeout, and a climbing ERA of 5.93

For me, my favorite kind of Matt Harvey start – fast and awful.
