Matt Harvey vs. the Nats. Was this the final Harvey Day ever? You’ll look!

Well, the Orioles have no respect for my desire to completely ignore baseball when it is nice out, but I am committed to being The World’s Foremost Expert on Matt Harvey, and as today could be the Series Finale of Harvey Days, I had to recap.

The Orioles spot Matt to a 3 run lead in the first so all he has to do is rear back and throw.  Let’s check the numbers!

Trea Turner leads off.  He hits a squib that can’t be fielded.  One on.  Surely Matt will not be rattled, and besides, you can’t even see the netting.

Then this pesky double happens.

3-1.  Then…well….Orioles I did warn you….

And we have a tie game.

THEN Matt gives up back to back doubles and it is Four-Three and time for some helpful advice from Holmes who tells everyone Matt is terrible to which we say No Kidding Sherlock.

And sadly, here is the face of a man realizing he may be making his final major league appearance.

And we have our Featured Image for the post.

And then….OH NO….

PSYCHE.  Its just a massive foul ball that goes foul by three feet.  Instead Matt tells whoever this guy is SIT DOWN SON.  His second K of the inning!

And we will go on to the second and I am mad because it’s been an hour already and I want to sit in the sun.

In the second…I don’t know. By the time I finished updating the first inning Matt had retired the Orioles 1-2-3!

In the third…it’s now 4-4 as the Orioles love supporting TDK….a single, a SB but nothing else of note.  This game is slow and I am getting mad it even exists because I WANT TO SIT OUT IN THE SUN.  Matt has 5 strikeouts now.  Can you guys just bat for him?

No, no they won’t.  Grrrr.

In the bottom of the 4th, I dunno someone got to second somehow while I was away…and then the next guy reached on an infield single.

There are two on and  none out and Brandon Hyde knows to get someone up.

Uh oh…

Nah don’t worry, it’s just one of those warning track outs Matt specializes at.  But it knocks in a run and it’s 5-4 Nats.

On to the 5th because the Orioles hate me, and nature, and sunshine and puppies and all things good and they send Matt out there AGAIN even though he sucks and I just want to lay out in the sun.  But sure let’s pretend there is a point to this…

Matt walks a guy, that guys gets caught stealing.  Then Matt gets a ground ball but the throw is high and there’s a runner on…..and then the next guy singles and FINALLY I get what I want..

He knows Doctor.   He knows.

The bullpen let one of those runners score so its…

4 and two thirds.  Nine hits.  6 runs, 5 earned, 6 strikeouts and a walk.  An ERA of 6.31 now.

Is this the end for The Next Seaver?

Don’t waste nice day watching Mets-Marlins Bullpen Game Game Notes

It is May 23rd and Pete Alonso has six home runs, keeping up his pace of three per month to lead the Mets!

Dominic Smith is 9-14 (.643) with six RBI and two walks (both intentional) with runners in scoring position since May 5…Only one player in the majors, Randy Arozarena (.769), has a higher OBP than Smith’s .688 mark in RISP situations since May 5…His .667 average with RISP in that span is tied for tops in the majors..Smith is batting .277/.365/.323 with eight runs, three doubles, seven RBI and eight walks in 19 games this month…This compares to a .222/.340/.333 slash line with four extra-base hits in 20 games in April.  He also plays first base, something not many baseball executives know.

Kevin Pillar underwent successful surgery to repair his nasal fractures on Friday, May 21 at Weill Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan…Within 72 hours of the surgery, he will begin light activities.

The Mets have used 40 players through 39 games this season…The team used a total of 47 player in 2020…The franchise record for most players used in a season is 56 by the 2018 Mets…New York has used eight starters this year…Jordan Yamamoto would be the team’s ninth starter used in 2021…The Mets used 10 starters in 2020… The franchise record is 20 starters used in 1967.  This also has @mediagoon on pace to break his own record for jerseys purchashed in a single season (63) set back in 2013.

Edwin Díaz has converted 148 saves in his career…He is now has the second-most all-time by a Puerto Rican-born reliever…Roberto Hernández is first with 326 saves…Díaz has not allowed a run in any of his seven save opportunities this season…He has struck out 23 in 18 games (18.1 innings) this season good for a 11.29 strikeout per 9 IP ratio…He has struck out 172 batters since the start of the 2019 season…That is the fourth-most in that time frame but ask yourself, wouldn’t you rather just have Jarred Kelenic?

Remember, never waste a sunny summer day watching baseball inside.
