LoHud Mets blog suggests Reyes bat 7th or 8th

The LoHud Mets blog suggests the Mets bat Jose Reyes 7th or 8th until he gets rocking again. (He posted an 8 man lineup, so I don’t know where he wants the catcher)

That’s some aggressive pool there, and you have to factor in the managing of the humans involved.

However, Jose is off to a slow start…

…but it would look panicky and be great for the second-guessers.

Since it’s not fair to link and not throw out an opinion – this thought did cross my head last night after the second foul-out, but I quickly dismissed it.  If Jose Reyes isn’t up to the task this team isn’t going anywhere anyway.  Dance with who brung ya.

Whatcha think?

Looks like Bark in the Park has sold out

Anyone ever brought their dog to a game?  My dog is pretty annoying, but I bet with a chill dog this could be fun.   What happens when the dogs lift a leg?

Anyway, even though it appears to be sold out, for curiosity’s sake:

Clancy on “Retire 17”

I really liked Clancy’s comment – worthy of a post:

Not everyone whose number is retired has to be in the Hall of Fame (heck, the other team in NY practically retires your number if you successfully bunt a runner over to second).

It’s more about what the player meant to the team, isn’t it?  Keith Hernandez turned this franchise around, made it take itself seriously again, truly led the club in word and deed.  How many times would you see him walk to the mound in a tight spot and not just offer empty words of encouragement but emphatically challenge the pitcher to get that guy out, or find him in the dugout talking to one player or another – pitcher or everyday player – about the game, a situation, an at-bat? He challenged this team to be better, and they listened.  I consider him a leader in the way Gil Hodges was a leader, on the field and in the clubhouse (and to also argue time of service for number retirement, Hodges only managed for four years).

It’s not just about numbers one puts on the board, or about being a Hall of Famer, it’s about what you did for your team; I think Hernandez was the heart and drive of the Mets during his time here, and his number should be on the wall, without question.

Get Bobby V in the dugout. Tonight.

I was emailing with a friend and he just pushed me over the edge.

Get Bobby Valentine in the dugout.  Tonight.

Get Ike Davis in the dugout as soon as the “save a year on arbitration” day passes whether it is today or tomorrow.

Here’s what I see coming:  2 more months of who cares baseball and then the Bob Melvin era.  You can’t sell any of that.   Not in this town in 2010.

I personally don’t think Bobby is as good as others do, but he sure is exciting.

Bobby will win over the Piazza generation and keep the Mets in conversations in the sports sections and on WFAN.

The Mets can’t let there be another lost summer.

I read the same denial quote from Bobby that you did.   He had to say something like that.  What’s he going to say, “Sure, fire Jerry I’d love the job!”  Look what happened to Gary Carter when he said something similar during the Willie Watch.

I don’t know if Bobby brings a ring with him or not (and his resume suggests not) but right here on April 19th if I’m the Mets and have a business model that includes turnstile and TV ratings – I’m holding a press conference asap.
