Fashion Brand and sometimes baseball team New York Mets becoming embedded in fashion culture!

Some of you may be thinking, hey cut the crap with all the nonsense and maybe win a World Series for once, but not me.  I like the direction the Mets are heading.  They are clearly becoming a Lifestyle Brand, with cool apparel partnerships, and their store, and DJ Herb and whatever else Alex is into this week while Steve is off Hedging.

So don’t go suggesting this is stupid when I tell you the New York Mets and New York or Nowhere (NYON) announced the launch of their co-branded collection, in partnership with New Era Cap and Major League Baseball (MLB). The exclusive collection consists of 52 carefully curated pieces, including a range of apparel and headwear for adults and kids. Produced by New Era Cap, the international sports and lifestyle brand and official on-field cap of the MLB, the collection brings together the illustrious Mets brand with NYON’s trademark style.

You can see here that ames Benesh knows what’s important.  It’s not winning.  It’s elevating the brand and becoming embedded in fashion culture.

“As we continue to elevate the Mets brand and become more embedded in fashion culture, we’re excited to be partnering with an iconic brand like New York or Nowhere,” said James Benesh, VP of Ballpark Experience, New York Mets. “Our fans have been asking about a collaboration with New York or Nowhere for quite some time and we’re happy we can deliver with such an extensive collection. We can’t wait to see these iconic pieces in our ballpark and on the streets of New York City.”

The launch campaign, featuring Mets Hall of Famer  and Donald Trump Rally Attendee Mike Piazza, strengthens the collection’s ties to the team’s rich history while expanding its appeal to fans of all generations. The collection is now available at select locations, including Mets House in Union Square, NYON’s flagship store in Nolita, online through newyorkornowhere.com and at Citi Field,

The NYON collaboration is just one of the many recent collections for the Mets, who have previously partnered with Siegelman Stable and Aime Leon Dore., which are two brands that Mets fans are known to love.

Anyway…here’s Mike encouraging you to explore the campaign…

And here’s what appears to be Mike enjoying a different campaign….

Doesn’t Mike live in Italy and/or Florida?  Is he really the guy to tell us how great New York is?  Anyway…who wouldn’t want these cool looking caps…or this supposedly sold out jacket that totally sold out because they sold lots of them and they are sold out.

James and Alex, keep up the great work.  You are completely in touch with your fanbase,

Fashion Brand and sometimes baseball team New York Mets to celebrate Black Legacy Game at Citi Field

My friends the Mets are very seriously about this, which is why they dropped the press release 5 hours before game time, and a few hours after promoting a fashion deal.  I’m pretty sure the Mets are just a fashion line and cool store in Union Square and whatever else Alex is into this week.  Steve’s busy hedging I guess.

You may recall during the 2020 season the Mets made a big deal about BLM before replacing the BLM on the mound with an ad for a car manufacturer on Game 2.

Also no day off between Minnesota and Queens?  Gary Cohen is gonna be exhausted!  He won’t like this schedule.

Anyway….

What’s with Mr. Met’s new personality?

Have you noticed Mr. Met’s new personality?

Since the return of the character, Mr. Met has been pretty chill.  Just hanging around and taking pictures.  Not exactly the Philly Phonetic.

Mrs. Met dragged Mister out of his shell and he started shooting t-shirts and being a little more animated, but still seemed like the same guy.

This year, I feel like they rebooted the character, and it feels off.   I saw Mister doing pushups….that’s not Mr. Met.   The character is much more lively now – which is inherently fine, except that’s not Mr. Met.

Let Mr. Met be Mr. Met.  Mrs. Met has been more animated since that character came back from the dead…so let her be the bubbly one.

Or there’s 5 new boro mascots to play with.  Let them be silly.

Or, if you really want to go the Phanatic Route…..why don’t you tap the past and have Mr. and Mrs. adopt a dog….named Homer The Beagle.

Get a big goofy slobbery furry Mets dog costume and let the dog do all the silly things you have Off Brand Mr. Met doing.

Why are the Cohens letting Citi Field look run down? Faded retired numbers,

Steve – fix the numbers.  This looks terrible.  If you’re gonna talk the talk about Mets history and Brand and all that, you can’t have sun-faded numbers.   This must be fixed by next homestead.

And while I have you – dude, put the museum back.   The real version.   There are plenty of places people can buy Merch….even your new Mets House during the off-season.

Anyway, these faded numbers are completely unacceptable.

I went to a Mets game at Citi Field!

Yesterday, I went to Citi Field for the first time since September 29, 2018 when I went to David Wright’s final game.

I went because my adult son asked me – fulfilling all the dreams of dragging the little boy version of him to Mets games so some day we could do this as adults.

I had a good time and enjoyed it.  It made me want to watch more baseball (My consumption is up 400% this year from watching one game (161)  last year to watching three and attending one).  It made me want to drop the $70 on MLB The Show (they took ’24 off Game Pass and want $70 for it, same as the new one).

I can’t say the Mets aren’t trying to entertain people.  The scoreboard is non-stop gimmicks and there seem to be like 19 people working on the in-game  entertainment segments (all sponsored by sponsors I can’t name, sorry Steve.)

The Queens Crew is as dumb as I expected – although yesterday, they had kids doing it, which is much more palatable.

Speaking of kids, I really like this thing where the player photos are drawings.  This one of the Met Who Has Most Disgraced The Uniform, Franciso Lindor, is great because look at the right hand. The genius child snuck in a thumbs down. Heh heh heh.  Well done kid.

Here’s the crowd.  The Mets might be overstating how popular the team is.  Or maybe the weather forecast wasn’t great.  It was surprisingly “warm” and I was quite comfortable.

I also noticed that fans are wearing blue and orange, thanks to 2012’s Treaty of Flushing, now broken by the Cohens.  Since it took a decade for color sanity to make it back to the fanbase, expect the Cohen Era Ugly jerseys to continue to circulate well into the 2030s.  Shame.

Gonna be honest, I was underwhelmed by the Seaver Statue.  I don’t know what I was expecting…maybe I thought it was bigger?  But I’m very glad it exists.

Let’s talk about this.  The Mets last week social-media-bragged about their attention to detail.  The Mets definitely do not pay attention to detail.  Look ow faded these numbers are.  How is this possible Steve?   If nothing else, it makes the ballpark look rundown.  That’s not a premium environment for your advertisers.

A wider shot so you can see the other numbers which are not sunbleached.

I thought I took a photo of the Pennant Banners, but I don’t seem to have it.  Anyway, why are the Mets double dipping the 2000 season?  You won a pennant, you don’t need to talk about the Wild Card.  2000 has its own pennant (fine) but 2000 also appears on the We Have No Pride Wild Card pennant which should be removed.

Citi Field is one big commerce center.  Every square inch of the park is now covered with advertising, and you can’t go more than six inches before there is a stand trying to sell you something.  I got angry when I passed the site of the former museum, and then passed the plaques which are now just sitting in the hallway.  This is another Major Cohen-era regression.  It’s not like there isn’t a big store on the field level.   I wish they’d put that back as it was one of the best features of the park.

I didn’t do a loop or head out to T-Shirt land or The Bridge or any of that.

Most importantly, I spend ZERO DOLLARS.   When Lindor is gone, we can talk.  Until then, the Mets have built their brand around a guy who told the fans to hose off, so hose off I shall.    At least I have Soto to root for until Pete co-opts him with vulgarity.

Overall, a very positive review., the Mets won, and I got to boo Lindor in person.  A good day.  LGM.
