ROJAS MUST GO! Dom Smith not in Mets Opening Day lineup

Even if it comes out an hour from now that Dom is sick/sad/personal crisis/etc I still think Rojas should go.  I just want to be on the record with 162 games to go.

Luis Rojas missed an 8 team playoff last season.  Unacceptable.  Steve, Sandy and the two GMs should have made a change.

Jacob deGrom to start for the New York Mets tonight!

deGrom is expected to wear a road jersey.

I know you guys just want to talk about Donald Trump Supporter Mike Piazza, or if the Mets will invite Rudy Giuliani to the 9/11/21 game or Chris Christie’s opinion on boycotting major Mets sponsor Delta and the Mets players reluctance to get vaccines, but I am her to talk about baseball.

Jacob deGrom will make his third career Opening Day start tonight…This marks his third consecutive Opening Day start…deGrom made his first career Opening Day start in 2019 against the Nationals in D.C…He earned the win, hurling 6.0 scoreless innings, issuing only one walk and allowing five hits while striking out 10…He is the 27th different pitcher to start on Opening Day for the Mets…He is the 11th pitcher to start multiple Opening Days for the franchise…Including deGrom, there have been seven Mets to start at least three Opening Days for the team…Tom Seaver holds the record with 11 Opening Day nods…All 11 of those pitchers started at least one set of consecutive openers…Noah Syndergaard (2017-2018), was the last Mets starting pitcher to get consecutive Opening Day nods.

Tonight’s start is the first of deGrom’s eighth major league season…In his first seven seasons, he has posted a 2.61 ERA in 183 starts… Since the earned run became official in 1913, only eight pitchers have recorded a better ERA through their seventh career season (min. 175 starts)…The only active pitcher with a better mark through seven years in the majors is Clayton Kershaw (2.48 ERA from 2008-2014)…Tom Seaver, who, like deGrom, won NL Rookie of the Year and two Cy Young Awards in his first seven campaigns, ranks third on the list with a 2.38 ERA

According to Elias, only three other pitchers in the last 50 seasons have held an ERA of 2.10 or lower over a span of three years (min. 400.0 innings): Clayton Kershaw (four times from 2012-2017), Pedro Martinez (1999-2001 and 2000-2002) and Greg Maddux (1992-1994, 1993-1995 and 1994-1996).

After losing their first eight Opening Day contests, the Mets have won 39 of their last 51 Opening Day games (.765)…New York took nine straight openers from 1975-1983 to tie a major league record…The Mets have won 12 of their last 15 openers, including each of the last four.

he New York Mets announced that they will wear a “41” Tom Seaver tribute patch on the right sleeve of their home and road uniforms during the 2021 season…Seaver passed away on August 31, 2020 at age 75…Seaver won 311 games, had a 2.86 ERA and struck out 3,640 batters over a 20-year major league career that spanned from 1967-1986, earning 12 All-Star selections in the process…He led the National League in wins three times, ERA three times and strikeouts five times…Seaver was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992…Seaver spent 12 years with the Mets and went 198-124 with a 2.57 ERA and 2,541 strikeouts…He is the Mets’ all-time leader in wins, strikeouts, shutouts (44), ERA, complete games (171) and starts (395)…He won three Cy Young Awards with the team in 1969, 1973 and 1975 as well as the NL Rookie of the Year Award in 1967.

The 2021 Mets enter the season with several new players on the roster including OF Albert Almora, Jr. (free agent), RHP Jacob Barnes (waiver claim), RHP Carlos Carrasco (trade), INF Francisco Lindor (trade), LHP Aaron Loup (free agent), LHP Joey Lucchesi (trade), RHP Trevor May (free agent), C James McCann (free agent), OF Kevin Pillar (free agent), INF Jonathan Villar (free agent) and RHP Taijuan Walker (free agent).

Collin Cowgill and Todd Hundley are the only two Mets to hit a grand slam on Opening Day…Cowgill went deep on April 1, 2013 off San Diego’s Brad Brach…Hundley’s slam came on April 26, 1995 at Colorado off Billy Swift.

METS EXTEND FRANCISCO LINDOR

METS EXTEND FRANCISCO LINDOR

FLUSHING, N.Y., April 5, 2021 – The New York Mets today announced that the team has agreed to terms with shortstop Francisco Lindor on a 10-year contract extension beginning in 2022.

“Today is a great day for the Mets, Mets fans everywhere, Francisco, his teammates and his family,” Owner, Chairman and CEO Steve Cohen said. “Having spent time with Francisco during spring training, he’s an extraordinary talent on the field and an exceptional person off it. This is a great start to opening the season and a big step toward our pursuit of sustained winning… and championships.”

“Francisco brings so much to the Mets – as a player and leader,” said Mets President Sandy Alderson.  “His reputation for both preceded him when he joined us and he’s exceeded all of our expectations. His abilities and presence will be critical to our success going forward.  We’re thrilled that Francisco will be a Met for years to come.”

Lindor, 27, is a four-time All-Star (2016-2019), a two-time Gold Glove Award winner (2016, 2019), including the American League Platinum Glove for the best overall defender in 2016 and a two-time Silver Slugger (2017, 2018).

“So much thanks has to first go to Steve and Alex Cohen, as well as Sandy for their hard work and commitment to winning,” said Lindor. “I’m thrilled and blessed to part of this organization for years to come. Everyone has welcomed me and my family with open arms. I’m beyond excited to go out and play for Mets fans and help bring a championship to Queens.”

He was acquired by the Mets on January 7 along with right-handed pitcher Carlos Carrasco from Cleveland in exchange for infielders Andrés Giménez and Amed Rosario as well as minor leaguers Josh Wolf and Isaiah Greene.

The 5-11, 190-pounder ranks third in the majors with 258 extra-base hits since 2017. He ranks third in runs scored (359), fifth in hits (592), tied for 12th in homers (111) and 17th in stolen bases (68) during that span.

Public heroes The Mets need to get vaccinated!!!!

Hey Mets, stop being stupid anti-vaxxers and realize we all need to get this done so we can all get back to normal life.  For example, people attending baseball games so there is more baseball related revenue so YOU can make some money.

“It’s a personal choice,” Conforto said. “Everybody has their own opinions on whether or not they’re going to go into get vaccinated. But what I will say is when we get home. Anyone who wants a vaccine will be able to get one and I think that’s a good thing for the league, good thing for the teams.”

“I was very lucky. I had really really mild symptoms. My fiance actually, she had more on the moderate side, she experienced everything I had,  I certainly had some shortness of breath. It wasn’t easy for me being so close to spring training, I was really trying to work out, and I just couldn’t do that. But I was lucky, and coming into spring training, it was not ideal to not have worked out for a couple weeks, or 12 days or whatever it was, but we were able to build up and make sure that I was ready to go by the time we were supposed to start.” (Via Daily News)

Look Mets, you guys need to be role models.   People listen to you.  You vulgarize Let’s Go Mets and then other people vulgarize Let’s Go Mets.  You say you want black uniforms then other people say YEAH BLACK UNIFORMS.

So it’s time to get vaccinated so other people get vaccinated.   I am tired of not being able to see my mother in person because of Covid related issues.

“I haven’t really thought about it,” Davis said, when asked if he plans to be vaccinated. “I have been so focused on baseball and getting ready for the season. I have been concentrating on getting at-bats and getting my swing right, getting ready for defense. It’s a personal preference for me. It really hasn’t crossed my mind. This topic has come up over the last couple of days. With us moving from Florida to D.C. the last couple of days, I just really haven’t sat down and really thought about it.” (via New York Post)

You haven’t thought about it?

You live on Earth right?

You played in a 60 game season right?

You play in empty stadiums right?

You haven’t thought about it?

What is wrong with this entire organization?   The Wilpons are gone but now we are some sort of differently weird anti-vaxx organization.

GET VACCINATED YOU IDIOTS.

Will the Mets invite Rudy Giuliani to the 9/11/21 game?

All this talk about Donald Trump Supporter Mike Piazza got me wondering.

Will the Mets invite America’s Mayor Rudy Giuliani to the game in September?

I know that people like to give Mike Piazza credit for healing the city, but you know who else had a pretty good fall of 2001 and helped heal the city?  Person Of The Year Rudy Giuliani!

Now in recent years Rudy has become less popular with some people because of his associations with former President Trump.

To me, they have to invite him.  He’s core to the story they are telling that day, much like fellow Trump supporter Mike Piazza.

Anyway, I will be curious to see what happens here.  With someone like Chris Christie on the Mets Board Of Directors, I imagine Queens will be a Rudy-friendly environment, no matter what choices Rudy has made in recent years, much like Mike Piazza is welcome.
