Phillies ticket system slammed

Single game Phillies tickets went on sale this morning (imagine that, individual game sales!  I wonder if the Mets will get around to that?) and reports are that it’s very hard to get through.

Since I’m a capitalist, and it’s an easy enough drive from Mets Police HQ I thought I’d scoop myself up some Mets tickets…I too find myself in an endless queue.

I wonder if we will find the same troubles in Flushing when they put tickets on sale (probably in March).   I suspect that outside of Opening Day you won’t have much trouble finding a seat.

Housekeeping: links, feeds, other blog

As always, thanks to everyone who sends in items for the site.  Your participation is always appreciated, and it honestly makes the Mets Police beat easier.

Some quick notes:

I’m on a kick to expand the base readership of the blog.  If you would find it easier to get a daily email, or subscribe in a reader like Google reader, it’s free and easy and then the blog will come to you.

Long time readers may have noticed that I don’t wander on to other topics as much as I used to.  As the readership has grown I am trying to keep Mets Police to topics in Flushing (although if something really annoys me like what the Cubs did) I am going to choose to use this forum.

I have begun putting the non-Mets items on Shannon’s Other Blog.   For the most part I tend to just do links and excerpts over there, but if you like the types of things I cover here you may find those articles interesting.  I don’t have the time to put the amount of work into that one that I do here, so consider that one to be more casual.  However, it is hard to ignore the Yankees in this town so don’t be surprised if I comment on them like once a week.

During the redesign I got away from “Share Your Shots” collections of Mets photos.  If  you’d like to take part just email me at [email protected]

Always happy to pass traffic along to your blog, just answer the questions you can find here on Meet the Mets Bloggers and send me your answers.  As a blogger you will understand that it makes my life easy if you format correctly.

If you have dropped off my blogroll during the move, shoot me a note.

David Wright understands the mission

I probably should have written this about 16 hours ago but I have some other interests besides the Mets (“job” and “daddy”) but better late than never.

I’m thrilled that finally someone other than me understands the mission and I am thrilled that the person is the future captain David Wright.

At some point Wilponspeak made it seem ok to play “meaningful games in September.”. Yeah that meaningful game 162 in ’07 and ’08 meant a lot. Who can ever forget the thrill of Tom Cylon Glavine’s final Mets appearance or the last game at Shea?

I hate to bring up certain other teams but the Yankees get it. Girardi is changing his uniform number to 28 to remind everyone of what the goal is. (I double dare Jerry to wear 3).

It makes me happy to her Wright talking about winning the World Series. Not a rebound, not make the playoffs. Win.

If all goes well, Wright will play his entire career here and we’ll finally have a Franchise who didn’t spend 6 years in Ohio.

So far DW has been on the quiet side, and one thing the recent teams have missed is that Hernandez/O’Neill/LoDuca type that will get in the face of teammates when they start slacking. I don’t know if Wright has that in his personality, but the quote was a good start.

Just like I challenged Reyes yesterday to put all aspects of his game together, it is time for David to lead. Hitting a quiet .300 isn’t enough. Time to win. You understand the mission, now go grab the other 24 guys by the neck and make Omar look like a genius.

Glad Reyes feels fine: time to put it all together

In my two years doing this I have ticked off some folks with my criticism of Jose Reyes. Basically, I see the tools you see but I don’t see a player who has put then all together to be a superstar.

That being said, I’m happy to hear he’s feeling fine. I’m cautious because the Mets training staff has taught me to fear. I worry Jose is one bad step away from 6 months on the DL and I don’t think I will ever shake that feeling.

As much as this blog can be about criticizing, I’m just a Mets fan like you who wants them to win the World Series (in nice uniforms). Hopefully this is the season Jose wins the MVP.

However I stand by what I’ve said in the past: through this point, Jimmy Rollins has been a better player. He doesn’t have the tools, but he has accomplished more with less. Take your Phillies rage away for a second: who would you rather have, Kent or Backman? Jefferies or Backman? Mookie or Bonilla? Sometimes raw talent isn’t everything.

You can show me all the studies you want about Citi Field but ideally someone is telling Reyes not to try to match his 19 homers from 2006. .300 and lots of steals would go a long way (thanks Captain Obvious).

Finally, winning does make a difference. Buddy Harrelson was loved in this town and it wasn’t because of numbers.

The talent is there, time to put it all together and lead this team to a ring.

The Mets hold an option for 2011 for $11 million.
