Mets Hall of Fame day is not in the Sunday Plus Plan

I am going to throw something.

Media Goon just correctly pointed out that August 1st, the day the Mets will honor Doc, Straw, Cashen and Davey is not in the Sunday Plus plan.

So you’re a big Mets fan, you pre-pay the Mets for 15 games in a “Sunday Plus” plan, and then they add a really cool event on one of the Sundays they left out.

That’s the kind of annoying stuff that costs you long term customers.

The game is part of the weekend plus plan.  I bet many Sunday-plus plan owners will be quite surprised when they go to grab their tickets and find that they don’t have one.

As I’ve said before, they need a fan-consultant.  Run this stuff by someone.  You’ll hear grumblings about this in July once people look closely and their packages.

Thoughts about the Mets Hall of Fame announcement

Since Metsblog did a great job recapping what was said on the call, rather than type for typing sake I’ll send you over there…but since it’s right up my alley I want to comment.

I love that the Mets are having a ceremony on August 1st.  For me, that’s now a hot ticket.

The quotes Matt has from both Doc & Darryl about their regrets on their Met careers are priceless.  Straw is right that the biggest mistake he made was leaving the Mets.  Well, maybe not the biggest, he’s had some personal demons, but for purposes of Mets Policing, it sucked when he talked for years about how he couldn’t wait to be a Dodger, and then followed suit.

I don’t think you yougins can ever quite grasp how good Gooden was there at the start.  He was absolutely on his way to the Hall of Fame.  The Daily News one time ran a faux-future article about Doc’s 300th win (with career recaps).  If anyone has that or can find it online, that would be gold.  (Hey Bitter Bill, can you go down the hall and look in some archive?).  That he finished with under 200 wins is amazing.  He had 60 and 21 years old.

Cashen is a name you don’t hear these days, and placing him in the Hall and having a prominent hall and museum is a good way for Mets fans to know about names like that.   That’s why I’ve been harping on this stuff since I started this site.  You can’t expect some 15 year old Mets fan to know about these guys unless you tell them.  It looks like the Mets are doing a good job on this.

Today’s a good day in Flushing.

(still waiting for new blog host to take control of the site.  This process is as slow as Sid Fernandez pitching the second game of a doubleheader.   This is another reminder that the site might go down/look weird/look stupid for anywhere between two seconds and several hours depending on when they do it and how close I am to a computer when they do.)

Mets Hall of Fame: Davey, Straw, Gooden, Cashen are in

Several sources including Bitter Bill are reporting that at 2pm today the Mets will announce Strawberry, Gooden, Davey Johnson and Frank Cashen will be inducted to the Mets Hall of Fame.  These are the first names to be added in 8 years.

However, I’m not here to talk about the past,  This is a good day.  Great list of names, all very deserving.  You kids don’t know much about Cashen, he’s the person to thank for everything we love about the 80’s.

Hopefully, we’ll learn more about the new museum.

Valentine’s demise in Japan (Japan Times)

Here’s a must read:  Valentine’s Demise via Japan Times.  Bobby won it all, and made a lot of money….but when the winning stopped, and the money got tight….

Valentine’s supporters boasted that he was headed for the Japanese Hall of Fame.

But then the roof began to fall in.

The 2008 Marines finished in the second division — albeit barely in a four-team race for the flag. It was the third time in the five years of the Valentine administration that this had happened, and it was not the kind of record people expected from one of the world’s most expensive managers.

More here.

Seaver Citi Field news today? (Speculation)

In a Metsblog article about retiring #17 (yes please), Matt Cerrone mentions that he believes an announcement about off-field team-history something is close.

Previously, Craig Marino had indicated to Dan from Mets Police that Seaver would be somehow honored.

Any speculation?

Speaking of letters, Jesse’s letter to Dave Howard is getting a nice response in Metsdom.

Site update: I think the transfer could happen at any time today, so another reminder that the site could go down for a little bit.  I have a new site parked and ready to go.  It’s not going to blow you away minute one, a friend said “it’s not that different” (I did try to ape the look) but long term it will work better for you (especially comments) and make my life easier.
