Utley’s Corner

During the game tonight, Gary Cohen seemingly spotaneously dubbed right field “Utley’s Corner” since Chase utley had poked two home runs down there.

I kind of like it.

It’s odd to name something for an opposing player, I think that’s why I like it.   Plus it will help build this 21st century rivalry.

What does everyone think?  Yay or nay.  I vote yay because it wasn’t contrived.

New York Mets Black Uniforms With Gray Undershirts?

Maybe I just haven’t been paying attention – but the gray undershirts kept catching my eye tonight?

Are these new?

This picture of Garth Brooks and Mike Piazza is from 2000….black undershirt

Edgardo Alfonzo also had black.

Maybe the Mets have been wearing them for 8 years and I just never noticed.  I avert my eyes when they wear black.

Anyone know?

Unrelated:  Cow-Bell man needs to be kicked out of the stadium or SNY needs to just air the game without a crowd mike.  Enough with the conk-conk-conk.   It’s a ripoff of Freddy Sez (Yankees) so tell Cow-Bell man to stay home.

UPDATE:

Sparks has left a new comment on your post “New York Mets Black Uniforms With Gray Undershirts…“:

They’ve had gray-chested undershirts for a while. Here’s a photo of the locker room celebration when the Mets won the 2006 NLDS:

Not sure if it was true back then, but this year’s version is a MLB-wide standard:

Also, sometime during the late Valentine era, the Mets also had two-color undershirts, either with a colored upper torso and a gray lower torso or vice versa. I can’t find any photos of that, but distinctly remember seeing them.

New York Mets David Wright On Home Runs At Citi Field (ESPN)

Thanks to Mets Walk Offs for sending this over.

“It took an adjustment,” said Wright, according to Gammons’ blog. “The idea is to hit line drives gap to gap. That’s what I’ve concentrated on and not worrying about hitting balls to the warning track for easy outs. I’ve found two things. The first is that because the outfield is so huge, I’m getting some cheap hits at home. The second is that it’s going to help us on the road because you get into good habits in a pitchers’ park. It’s a lot easier going from a pitchers’ park to a hitters’ park than vice versa.”

The whole Wright article is here on ESPN.

By the way, if you like Mets Minutiae, definitely check out the Walkoffs site.   Plus I appreciate Walkoffs for always getting back to me when I have dumb questions like “how many times did Tim Bogar get on base due to catchers interference?”

More amazing is that Walkoffs liked Neil Allen.

Mets Police Endorse "Meet The Mets" In New York Mets 8th Inning Singalong

I personally like Curly Shuffle because I’m from the 80s but I think we should all unite behind Meet the Mets lest we split the vote.

Therefore I officially endorse “Meet the Mets” which sounded great during the 8th yesterday.

All other choices would be idiotic.

Don’t forget, this will become a tradition….so let’s not mess this one up.  Other bloggers, do the right thing.

FLUSHING, N.Y., June 26, 2009 – The New York Mets today announced the launch of an online fan vote to pick the Mets Eighth Inning “Sing-A-Long” Song at Citi Field. Voting begins now on Mets.com.
WFAN’s Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton assisted the Mets in compiling a list of songs by submitting their own selections.
Fans can log on to Mets.com to vote for one of the following:
