The Citi Field Security Wears "Phillies Red"

One of the most common complaints about Citi Field so far is a minor one, but fun for a slow day.

Security wears the same red as the Phillies.

I don’t know the psychology of having security wear red (doesn’t red bring out anger in people?) but I really don’t get why Philles red.

So I was standing by “Right Field Gate” (this new nomenclature is weird) on Friday and the color bothered me…so I asked the guy, “Why Phillies red?”

He said, quite frustrated, that he had been hearing a lot of that.

Later on by the gift shop I heard another fan giving that guard a hard time.  That guard too was sick of it.

I ran into a really nice cool “head security” guy so I asked him.  His explanation…(paraphrasing)

“All you guys wear blue and orange so we needed to stand out.”

That actually made and makes sense to me, so I smiled, accepted his reasoning and shook his hand.   I still think they could have picked lime green or something but at least there was a reason.

After attending one game I’m finding the security at both stadiums very friendly.  The Citi ushers were much nicer than they ever were at Shea (where their hand was in a permanent “tip” position).  The Yankee ushers are not so pleasant.

Video: Can You See From The Last Rows Of The Citi Field Promenade?

A tip of the blue Mets hat to Amazin’ Avenue who told us about this video from the last row of the LF Promenade at Citi Field.

I agree with Amazin’.  These aren’t bad.  Much better than the obstructed views in 504, or the obstructed views in 529.

For all things obstructed check out The Obstructions At Citi and The Obstructions at Yankee.

UPDATE:  This video comes from The ‘Ropolitans.  Do the right thing and give them a visit.

Mets TV Blackouts: A Boycott and an Open Letter To MLB

Other bloggers supported my “rally the troops” message….Bloggers Unite To Get Opening Night Changed To Opening Day

So I therefore support and encourage you to read the Kranepool Society’s Proposed Boycott of Saturday’s Game and also An Open Letter To Major League Baseball from Metsmerized – who are frustrated by the blackouts some fans experience watching “the baseball package” on cable.

I love the Kranepool’s but I’m so jazzed for baseball I don’t know if I can boycott a game this early. Then again, if I’m into radio mode through three innings I might just stay in that mode.

Madoff’s Season Tickets – Do The Right Thing

The news is all over the place this morning that Bernie Madoff’s season tickets to the Mets at Citi Field will be auctioned off by the government to recoup some of what the ponzi swindler lost.

The value of the package – which includes 2 seats to all games, parking, Delta Club access, and of course options on post-season – is $60,750. The Mets have already been paid for the seats so one would think it’s not really their concern.

Maybe it isn’t, but let me float an idea out there to Mr. Wilpon (either one).

Buy back the package from the government and give the tickets to some charity – or a group of charities. Let them then auction off the tickets.

Is Madoff the Mets problem? Not at all – but it’s not great publicity that a swindler used essentially stolen money to buy season tickets. Here’s an opportunity for the Mets to turn a negative into a huge positive.

I’ll even offer an alternative, and one that would generate even greater positive publicity. Have the Mets as a team – the players that is – buy the tickets. Each player could contribute to the cost the relative percentage of their team salary. So guys like Bobby Parnell & Dan Murphy might end up tossing in $200, while Carlos Beltran & Johan would be on the hook for about $8,500 (trust me, they can afford it).

Do they have to do this? Not at all. Will I kill them on it if they don’t? Again, not at all. I’m just a simple blogger offering up some ideas.
