Mets Police Morning Laziness: Mickey Watch Watch, is Mickey Hodges about to be bagged by the Mets?

For a guy whose job totally is safe there sure are a lot of Mickey Callaway articles today.

Both Mickey and half the media are way overreacting to the Mets beating the Marlins.

“I just called Jeff and told him we’re having another one tomorrow, because if we’re gonna score runs like that we’ll meet every day,” Callaway joked. (Via Yahoo)

Chuckle chuckle you’re under .500 STFU

The Post tells us Mick pushed back on roster criticism, which is something managers on the defensive do.

Meanwhile, NJ.com is writing articles about why Joe Girardi would be the right choice, which we all know to be true.

SLACKISH REACTION:   I realized I was wasting a Friday night 9-0 so I turned the game off and played MLB The Show as the Mets.  That was more fun than watching the real thing.  “Me” made it back into the 2021 Mets rotation if you care.  You don’t care.

Plenty to say about the new backpack policy at Citi Field.

Why did the Mets put their fans in danger last night?

Mickey Watch Watch: Mets Mickey Callaway’s job not in danger, why do you think it’s in danger?

Before the game there were many reports that Jeff met with Wags and Mickey Hodges for 90 minutes.

Those same reports all say he’s safe – but boy there are a lot of articles about him being safe.

Why wouldn’t he be safe?  I think he’s safe.  Don’t you?

I meet with the GM and manager all the time.  Don’t you meet with your senior people?  I certainly do.

Why wouldn’t Mickey be safe?  Of course he’s safe.  Why are you asking me this?  Is it me?  No, it’s you.

Are the Mets putting fans in Citi Field in danger tonight?

ICYMI earlier today the Mets announced a ban on backpacks which I commented on in a separate post.

My question tonight is….ARE THE METS PUTTING FANS IN CITI FIELD IN DANGER TONIGHT?

Tonight, potential evildoers can bring backpacks into Citi Field.  Whatever the Mets are worried about on May 20th surely could happen tonight.

Why in the name of safety would the Mets knowingly allow in threatening backpacks tonight?

Some more questions –

When did the Mets learn about the threat?  Did they find out this morning and immediately adjust their safety procedures?  That would be good, although it doesn’t explain the 10 day dangerous gap.

If they did not learn about it three seconds before announcing it, how long have they known?  Why did they wait to warn us?  And again – why a ten day dangerous gap?

Why did the Mets wait three months after the Nationals banned backpacks?  Is MLB Aware of a threat?  Are the Nationals just better versed in security trends?

I will also continue to ask why the Mets do not address the potential danger of having thousands of people on long lines outside the security perimeter waiting for bobbleheads?   Why not hand out bobbleheads on the way out?  Why not make one for everyone?   Why is there no protection from backpacks while I’m on that line.

Does anyone have the stats on how many stabbings/shootings/incidents there have been at Citi Field related to items smuggled in via backpack?

Does anyone have similar numbers about alcohol related incidents in the stands?

I don’t think this is some sort of conspiracy where the Mets want to make money off storage lockers (themselves potentially dangerous, notice they have been eliminated from airports).  They must be reacting to something – whether an actual threat, or possibly some lawyer pointing out they could potentially be on the hook should The Joker release laughing gas on Shea Bridge.  The Joker would of course only be able to get said gas into the stadium via backpack.

But all that comes back to the ten day gap.  It’s either a threat or it’s not.  And if it is, then letting backpacks in this homestead is unnecessarily reckless.

Another reason NOT to attend Mets games: Mets enact silly backpack ban

Well Mets, I guess you are unfamiliar with the concept of people going to games after work.  I work in New York City.  I carry a backpack.  Among other things it has my papers and a laptop.  You don’t seem to want my backpack to come to games, so it will not.

I need to go big font for this post.

Now let’s assume the worst. Dr. Evil will no longer be able to get into Citi Field with his evil backpack. Everyone is safe.

EXCEPT you are giving away bobbleheads and there is a line outside Citi Field for three hours. Dr. Evil can just walk up to the line WITH A BACKPACK and do whatever it is you are afraid of.

This is nonsense security theater. Complete nonsense. Nobody is any safer outside. Nobody is any safer on the 7 train. Nobody is any safer in the parking lot (I will remind you of the recent-is incident in the Dodger Stadium PARKING LOT).

You can read about this stupid new policy on Mets.com.

Why backpacks? Can’t a purse have just as many pockets to search, so why are you allowing that style bag?

Backpacks have a lot of compartments and are cumbersome to inspect. While we understand that other bags could be just as large or have multiple compartments, we are able to limit the number of bags that fit that criteria by prohibiting easily identifiable bags such as backpacks. It allows us to screen guests faster and more effectively.

Can I store my backpack at Citi Field somewhere?

There are no bag check facilities inside of Citi Field so it is important to review the security policies prior to departing for the ballpark. However, in the event that a guest is not aware of our enhanced bag policy prior to arrival, we will have temporary on-site locker rentals available and operated by a third party for a fee that can serve as a last minute solution. The locker rentals are being offered by an outside company and will be available two hours prior to the start of the game and then up to an hour after the game is completed.

Um….I don’t want to give anyone ideas…..you guys know there’s a reason they got rid of storage lockers in airports, right?

Finally, I love this.  No backpacks, unless you buy one from us.  Then you can use it.

What if I purchase a backpack within Citi Field, what happens then?

Backpacks will still be offered at our many retail stores within Citi Field. If you decide to purchase a backpack as a gift while attending a game, you will receive a Citi Field credential that will be attached to your newly purchased backpack that will give you permission to use that bag while on-site for that particular game. However, you will not be permitted to bring that backpack back in with you while attending any future games as the dated credential will be expired.

And finally Mets, please answer me this.  If there is a security risk, why are you waiting ten days to enact this policy?

If there IS a threat are you not being completely reckless tonight by letting backpacks in?

It’s a threat or it’s not – you can’t say it’s a threat but not for another ten days.
