The Sterling Solution

As we get ready for Game One, a Yankees friend has a great idea about what to do about John Sterling.

Most rational people realize that it is time for the Yankees to make a change in their radio booth.  Sterling and Suzyn are not a good team (I love how he completely ignores her – listen carefully, he never reacts to her, and he’ll step on her midsentence).

Sterling is all about cliches and ego.  So what to do with him?

Meanwhile, Paul Olden has taken over as The Voice of God, and he sounds more like The Voice Of The Nationals or some other generic sports team.

The Yankee fan suggests that Sterling become the PA Announcer.   That way the Yankees don’t have to run him out of town, they can appeal to his ego that only he can be the true successor to Bob Sheppard, and Sterling can shtick it up announcing “now batting, numero dos, El Capitan, The Captan, Derek Jeter!!!!!” and if Jeter homers he can do an after the fact “it is high…” call.   The ball is rarely high or far, so why not do it while the batter is rounding second.

Then the Yanks can go out and get a professional baseball announcer.  As for Suzyn, she was a damn good beat reporter for WFAN.   Perhaps there’s a role for her on YES somewhere.
