  1. Fred,

Maybe you’re right, but if that were to replace black/blue on the road, we’d all be alot happier! No?

    1. Um, no. After a twelve plus years, I’m now used to the black/blue “road” cap. I prefer the all-black though.

  2. Um, wow. I guess you, my friend, are exactly the consumer (read: sheep) the Mets are looking for! Give up all hope on bringing Blue back to prominence, get “used to” and buy any crap with Black in it they license…

  3. i think the orange brim totally works. i agree the white outline seems a bit too much, but if this replaced both black caps, i’d be VERY VERY pleased!

  4. I’m with Michael. Maybe I am used to it, but the black doesn’t bother me all that much, although I do prefer blue. I don’t think that makes me or most of us sheep.

  5. I honestly don’t mind the hybrid for a road cap, nor do I mind the all-black alt cap to wear with the black jerseys. Having both is silly, though, and every time I see black caps/sleeves/socks with white unis, I want to reach into the TV and punch somebody.

If they want to keep one black cap to wear with the alt jerseys and/or on the road, I’d be down with it, but PLEASE ditch the other one (or just combine the two like this http://www.lids.com/pid/20147390) and NEVER wear black lids with home whites or pinstripes.

I personally still favor a grey & blue cap for the road:

  6. Tom,

I don’t think all fans who like the Black aspect of Mets Unis and products Sheep, but if it’s a matter of
“well, I’m used to it now so, who cares if it’s not the team’s color and more of a ploy to sell some more jerseys and caps hatched 10+ years ago that’s outlived it’s time…”

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got some very strong memories of Mets teams in Black, but those teams were years ago and the organization needs to open it’s eyes, so to speak, and unify all the generations of Mets fans by ditching the Black on the field! Ask yourself this question: How many Mets fans do you know, or heard, that have said “Blue & Orange? Ugh! Where’s the Black?”

When the fans throw up their hands or slouch their shoulders and just except whatever look/image/players/manager etc., a Ball Club puts on the field, then yeah, Sheep! And, if I’m not mistaken, one of the points of this Blog, is to call out the Mets for the things they do.

    Just sayin’ is all…

  7. Actually most of my Mets fan friends are traditionalists, so We aren’t dominated by black when it comes to what we wear. We are also all 30 years old. I can see the younger generation of fans being tainted because they don’t know of a time when the Mets didn’t have black in their uniforms.

  8. Dang, I had made a comment on this last night but it seems to have disappeared.

I don’t mind the hybrid as a road cap, nor do I mind having the all-black cap to pair with the black alt jerseys (which I also don’t mind). What I don’t like is having both, which is ridiculous, or wearing black caps/sleeves/socks with white or pinstriped jerseys at home, which makes me want to reach into the TV and punch somebody.

That said, a blue (or even grey: http://www.lids.com/pid/20132063) road cap would make my day. From there, ditch the hybrid and only have the all-black cap to wear with the black jerseys.

I still think the compromise discussed here: https://metspolice.com/2010/05/06/if-there-must-by-hybrid-mets-caps-how-about-this-one/ could be satisfactory to all parties. Just combine the two black caps and it wear it both on the road AND with the black jerseys at home. The Mets get a new cap to sell, and we get slightly more sane–if not ideal–uniform combinations.

Just PLEASE quit wearing the black caps with the white jerseys at home. That alone would go a long way.
