If there must by hybrid Mets caps: how about this one?

I took yesterday off from black-uni-talk, but it remains something that draws bug interest.

Let’s recap:  seems to be a desire by MetsCo to sell black merch.   Personally, I think the NY doesn’t pop on tv on a hybrid cap.

Sparks suggests this New Era cap might be a solution.

As well discussed, I don’t like hybrids, but since I try to explore solutions I’d like to see what this looks like on television.

  1. Wholeheartedly agree about the need to see the “NY” on TV (although, perhaps if you have HD then this is a non-issue). Other than the fact that it needs a blue button on the top (I could be wrong, but in this photo it appears to have a black button), I think this is a fine compromise. Although I do actually like the all-black better, this too is a fine cap.

  2. Using the tr-color logo on the hybrid hat would look out of place when worn with any jersey other than the black one.
The Mets use the tri-color logo on the all-black hat because it matches the word-mark on the black jersey: blue letters w/white outline and orange drop shadow.
The current two-color logo on the two-tone (hybrid) cap pre-dates the “drop shadow era” and first appeared on the white two-tone “ice cream man” hat. It was designed to match match the word-marks on the pinstripe & “new” white uniforms

    1. There’s something to be said for that, FDD, but I don’t think it’d be that big a deal. No Mets jersey has orange writing on blue, either, but that’s the cap we all know, love, and want to see more often.

  3. I actually have the fitted version of this hat. Not a fashion hat but an actual on field version hat without the New Era flag on the left. Soon as I saw it I pounced. I love it. Back in 2007 Carlos Gomez wore this hat for about 3 innings. My challenge to anyone to find a pic!

  4. Yvaithe is right. And UniWatch covered it back on May 31st, 2007. The game in question was May 30th, 2007 and Carlos Gomez came out early in the game wearing this exact hat, which of course must have been a New Era malfunction.

There’s the article. Yours truly got a photo cred.
