  1. Seriously, am I the only person who’s watched this team play the past 4 years? Hope for any Mets greatness in the near future rode a horse out of town off long before either of these interviews were made public.

The franchise is broken and has been for a quite a while. Fred’s comments could only come as a shock if you were standing in a puddle of denial at the time.

    1. I can’t figure out why you still spend time watching the Mets if they really make you as miserable as they seem too.

Of course, after the last few days I’m questioning why I’m still watching them on a regular basis.

      1. …and there’s the obligatory challenging of motive instead of merits.

“The Mets” don’t make me miserable. I love the game and have been following this franchise for decades. It’s been one of the few constants as many other places, people, and things have come and gone.

Seeing it choke a division title away 2 years in a row and sitting in 4th place or worse for 3 years after that just makes me want better for it, and like it or not, that means significant changes. The Baseball Fairy isn’t just going to show up and magically turn something that doesn’t work into something that does.

  2. while i agree with sparks, and the author of said article, i think there is a much bigger issue that hope for the fans here

it’s about trying to get as much value for beltran & reyes (and anyone else they can move) — you certainly don’t drive up the asking price for any of these players by saying they suck and the team is shitty

not that anyone would believe wilpon if he were to blow smoke up every player’s ass, but he’s now put them in an even worse bargaining position, should the need arise

granted, wilpon made his statements right after the team had dropped to 5-13, and a LOT of fans were probably apt to agree with him, but as the owner there are certain things you JUST DON’T DO and that’s to throw your most movable players under the bus a month or two before the trade deadline

maybe he doesn’t want any good players or prospects in return, but that’s not fair to the franchise or the fans

time to sell all of it fred, not 20%, not 30%, not 49.9%

    all of it
