Good job: the Mets let people move down Sunday Night

Over the weekend I commented on a post from Mets Today with the goal of encouraging the Mets to let people “sneak down” when the stadium is half-empty.

Well, Sunday night during the third inning the Mets invited fans to move down to the open seats.  I’m getting my info from fans at the game – I’ve heard “to field level” and “closest open seat.”

Whatever the announcement was, I think that’s great.   There are die-hards out there in the rain tonight, let them have a nice night.  Maybe some kid has a great experience and forms a life-long experience with the team.

Some folks are being cynical saying that the Mets were embarrassed to show empty seats on national TV.  I’m not buying that logic.

The Mets did something nice for the fans, and since this is a fan-advocacy blog I applaud this move in a big way!

(Maybe this blogging stuff works?)

  1. Kudos to the Mets, but it seems this is more of a “Let’s-make-the-ballpark-look-full-for-national-television” thing. Even if that’s their motivation, it’s still a good thing though. Good for the fans sitting through all that tonight.

  2. I was there with the wife until they delayed the game. They announced that fans could move to any open seat, with the exclusion of the seats right behind the plate. We grabbed two seats in the first row behind the Braves dugout, and had a great time with all the other fans that don’t usually get to see the game that close.

  3. The Mets are offering complimentary tickets for anyone holding tickets to the Sunday night rain game

  4. Yeah, this is a great thing. I was talking to the users during the delay, and they were all saying that they’d never seen the Mets do this. The complementary tickets for an upcoming game was the icing on the cake. Well done Wilpons.

    Wow that felt wierd.
