Even more about what the Mets wear on any given day

Walt had this in the comments…too good to stay hidden.  (From Sunday afternoon)

The Mets do not wear black jerseys every Friday, they have only done so 4 time thus far this season. They went black on Fridays at home Apr 9, May 7, and Jun 4(all first Friday game of the month). They have gone for black Friday just once on the road, Apr 30, at Phillie (only road win in black thus far.

They have worn the hybrid on all home getaway days(5 for 5) Hadn’t noticed that before. The only occurrence of them not wearing the hybrid for a road getaway game was at Phillies on Apr 2, when they went black.
The Mets only wear black socks (belt and t-shirts too) on the road, and have since around the 2000 season. Though, they did go blue at Yankee stadium a few years ago, and I believe I read somewhere that MLB wasn’t happy about it, and may have fined the team(not part of their “official” road unis).

Also, Dickey wore socks, not stirrups Friday. Mets have only rarely worn stirrups for a long time(2000?). Last I can recall was some players wore stirrups last seasons final game.

Of course, If someone else has information that disputes my observations, I welcome it. I always have space in my internal hard drive for some random Mets info. I’ll just purge some needless memory of a youthful drunken mishap.

Isn’t it great that scientists developed the internet so we could obsess over this?

  1. I do remember David Wright wore stirrups for at least one game last June. And yes, the Mets wore blue caps for their last game at Yankee Stadium ’76 (when Delgado had like 9 RBIs). I remember the radio guys saying that Charlie Samuels decided to do it because that’s the combo they wore for their first game at Yankee Stadium ’76 back in 1997, when Interleague Play began.

  2. that’s true. wright wore stirrups i believe twice last year. once more after the first time uniwatch picked it up. also, lastings milledge donned them a few times when he was with the team in ’07. this year, no stirrups…yet.

as you probably read on uniwatch, the mets take off their hats and are placed in a bin after the hybrid hat days because they’re also the road hat and they need to be packed for the road. maybe that explains the get away day usage…although that’s kind of counterintuitive if you think about it. wouldn’t they want to wear the blue hats on get away days (since they never wear those on the road)?

that one mets/yanks game in ’08 was the only time the mets have broken out blue on the road since the end of the ’98 season. such a shame, because it looked AMAZING!

  3. While the pitcher’s get to choose, I can imagine that they may at times be strongly advised to choose a specific way.

  4. In an alternate uniform I would not mind the vest look, like the Reds and Pirates have (had) at times. (That Pirate vest look is my favorite and their stadium is the nicest in my opinion, just a shame the team is a mess.). Guess Mets would go white or pinstripe vest with a blue or orange t shirt under.

  5. And give Oriole fans some credit. While lots of Mets fans were there I saw the stands filled with orange colored uniforms…………..and all around the stadium is the team logo and “Home of the Orioles” is proudly written at Camden Yards.

Shannon – Question you can ask. If Mets could not be your favorite team, what team would it be? For me, aside from anyone that plays the Yankees, I think the Orioles be my team.

And dont forget to ask what happened to the green turf around the apple and what can go there instead, so it does not look like painted black plywood.

    1. A lot of that sea of orange was Mets shirts actually.

Sure, there were plenty of Orioles fans there, but they couldn’t even boo down Lets Go Mets.

I feel bad for the Orioles. but I wouldn’t adopt Baltimore as my team in any regard. Cubs, Giants, maybe the Red Sox.

  6. Well I am a Redskins fan (and Jets too to a lesser extent) so for some reason I always also liked the Orioles, good or bad years.

  7. I know that my comments seem a bit late…But why are the Mets insisting on wearing the Hybrid fitted back at home ie; against the Reds this week? I thought that they had set up a pattern this year! On getaway days, the hybrids…on regular Home days, the original Blue fitted! The Randomness of the Mets uniforms scheme is just that, RANDOM!!!
