View from Seattle on possible Lee to the Mets

Stumbled across this from a guy who covers the Mariners full-time.  I liked opening the article and seeing a picture of a Met (Thole)…seems like Thole and Pagan seems reasonable to the Seattle writer.

Is there another Angel Pagan that plays when I’m on vacation?  He’s been nice and all but let’s not get carried away.  .302 4 and 35.   I’ll try my luck with Cliff Lee and this guy Beltran I keep hearing about.

If the Mariners will make that deal make it now.   As we have learned championships are hard to come by, there may be one sitting on the table for the taking.

Also factor in SNY ratings, ticket sales and merchandise.  Cliff Lee gives the Mets a lot of additional income for the summer.

Maybe Thole makes the Hall of Fame and some fat guy on his deck will talk about what a stupid trade it was back in 2010, but today if I can get a Cliff Lee to make a shaky Santana a #3 (that’s if you believe Santana is shaky) you gotta look at this don’t you?

Wow, this post actually talked about baseball.

  1. hahahaha yes yes and YES

love the line about thole, but seriously, i’d do this trade alllll day.

  2. I agree in principle, but I’m not sure you can trade off Angel Pagan without being sure that Beltran is really healthy.

  3. i would guess that the same pagan plays when you are on vacation and home. my thought is that you because you leave games halfway through that you may not be picking up on exactly how good he has been…to put it in perspective:

according to WAR (wins above replacement) a stat which takes into account batting, fielding, and baserunning performance which is currently being used more widely among more progressive front offices (of which seattle is one) Pagan is 7th among NL outfielders, 3rd among NL centerfielders. so yeah, he has been pretty good.
