NorthJersey.com: Popper: Wally Backman should lie low till end of season

Intersting take.  I have already declared where I stand.  We’ll discuss this on the podcast at 6:30. (917) 889-2723.

But if he can’t stay quiet as Manuel’s days come to an end, can the Mets trust him with the precarious job of restoring the big-league squad?

Manuel was asked about his status last week and said, “I don’t know. I just take it a day at a time. I’ll be fine one way or the other. Whatever people I have, I’m going to take care of. Whatever kids, older players I have, I’m going to take care of.”

It was the right thing to say. Maybe that’s something Backman could learn from Manuel.
