Just asking

I always find things like this interesting…from Raissman today:

Reinsdorf should let Guillen, a longtime Miami resident, go to the Marlins, who are looking for a high-energy, high-profile Latin manager to guide their fortunes into their new downtown Miami stadium in 2012.

via With feud seemingly settled in the Bronx, time for ex-Yankees skipper Joe Torre to call it quits.

I don’t care who the Marlins hire.    However, the sentence caught my eye.

I’m wondering if the Mets or any other team are allowed to look for a high-energy, high-profile white manager to guide their fortunes, or if that’s racist?

How about teams find the best manager?

To make this about the Mets, I believe every name that has come up for the managerial job has been a white guy.   Will the Mets just hire Wally on October 10th or will they go through the dog and pony show of bringing in diverse candidates (the unofficial MLB Rooney Rule)?   Clearly the Mets organization is not racist..why should they have to go through this process if Wally is the guy they want?  But I bet they will.

  1. The Mets should not make any decision on a manager until they settle the front office situation. If they hire Wally Backman (or anybody else) before hiring a GM, they should just give Jeff Wilpon the title and be done with it.

  2. I’m with Paul, the Mets need to address the front office first.
By Oct 10 the Wilpons need to at least announce they are going in a new direction, and looking for a new GM & Manager.
I know the pitchers like & trust Warthen, but I’m prety sure he’ll be sent packing too. Clearly, the starting pitching has shown a weakness in their pre-game warm-up routine. All to often the starters have needed an inning or two to get into game rhythm. That fall s squarely on Warthen.

  3. Omar is staying. Jeffie too cheap to eat the contract.

    Oberkfell or Teufel.
    Stupid is as stupid does.
