My war with ESPN: Mazzilli ‘washed up’?!

Hey ESPN what is this crap? From an article about the Texas Rangers.

(Oh, that and some bad trades: Dave Righetti to the Yankees for a washed-up Sparky Lyle; Ron Darling and Walt Terrell to the Mets for a washed-up Lee Mazzilli; Dave Stewart to the Phillies for Rich Surhoff; leaving Tom Henke unprotected in the free agent compensation pool.)

Washed up?  Washed up??

Mr. Washed Up got a ring.  How many rings do the Texas Rangers have?

Later that year Texas traded Lee to the Yankees.  You know who they gave up?  Bucky bleepin’ Dent.  You know, one of the Pride Tradition and Mystique guys?   Would the Yankees of the 1980’s make a dumb trade for a washed up ballplayer (wait, don’t answer that one.)

Suddenly you guys are gonna wax poetic about the Rangers?  The team that went bankrupt and has a manager who failed a drug test?

Mr. Mazzilli also helped Toronto get to the ALCS in 1989.  Have the Rangers ever been to the ALCS?  Nope.

Washed up, ha.  The Rangers wish they were as washed up as 1982 Lee Mazzilli.

  1. Het Metspolice, it’s Osh41 – known you a long time buddy – and you need to face the truth – Mazz WAS WASHED UP. He wasn’t a regular anymore and Cashen made a brilliant deal (making up for the horrible deal a year earlier – Jeff Reardon for Ellis Valentine). It all worked out well for Mazz – if he had stayed in NY you would have had to watch him be awful – when he came back in 86 he had a role, pinch hitter, 4th OF. You were spared watching him fail as a regular in TX, PIT and NYY. Guy had no arm and played over his talents – had a solid career and started 2 HUGE rallies which won games 6 and 7 for our Mets. Be happy my brutha…….
