Mets still trying to get second team in Port St. Lucie

TC Palm has an update on the Mets efforts to get a second team to PSL.

There are few teams in that area now, so the Mets wind up playing the Braves, Marlins and Cardinals an awful lot.

The Nationals are mentioned as a possible team.

The Mets would build a new RF terrace and extend their lease 5 years.

I’m definitely going to treat myself to a longer spring trip in 2012 and one of these years I want to do the Arizona swing.

Also for 2012 I’m hoping the schedule lends itself to a convenient west coast swing. I’m more interested in an SF-SD pairing than LA.

  1. Red Sox are building a miniature Fenway Park in Ft. Myers with a state-of-the-art player development facility and loads of potential commercial space. Meanwhile, Fred Wilpon’s club is searching for a second team to come in and strip their isolated and outdated 1980s facility of its Mets DNA.

  2. I live in Brevard County where the Nationals Spring Train st Space Coast stadium in Viera. I would be surprised if it is the Nationals. They have been very adament about going to a brand new facility that they have drawn up. However they do want to move because they say they have to travel to far to play games.

Could possibly be the Astros, with new ownership, but if they were going to move I would think it would be to AZ.

There are also two Spring Training sites that are vacant. St. Petersburgh (Progess Energy Field) where the Rays used to sping train and the park that the Red Sox are leaving to move into their new park in 2012
