FLUSHING, N.Y., February 26, 2012 – The New York Mets today announced that the team will wear a patch to honor GaryCarter during the 2012 season. Carter passed away on February 16 after a courageous battle against brain cancer.
The patch features a black home plate with “KID 8” in white lettering. The patch will be worn on all Mets jerseys for the 2012 season, starting with the first Spring Training game on March 5.
The patch is not that great in my opinion…I would expect more for Kid…more like what they did for umpire John McSherry.
It is an as close to perfect tribute that the Mets could have done.Simple and it covers everything. Home Plate? Check. Affectionate nickname? Check. The number 8? Check. The appropriate use of black to show mourning? Check. There should not be any complaints about this patch. It is to remember Gary Carter not to be criticized like any other kind of patch.
I respect your opinion…I have read some terrible reviews of the patch on Facebook…I’m sure Uni Watch will chime in, as they have in the past

The patch is basically the same patch the Tigers used for Sparky Anderson last year. People are going to comment on it though.
Seriously, it is like criticizing the flowers people sent to someones funeral.Doesn’t need to be done.
Have to say I am very pleased with the patch design and size. The front office made a fine choice.
Not a bad tribute, though I wish it wasn’t necessary.
Now I’m just curious how it will look on the black jerseys.
