Cyclones to play as Brooklyn Jefes in Most Awesomest Baseball Promotion Of All Time

Minor League Baseball announced a way cool promotion today…

Copa de la Diversión,” or “Fun Cup,” is a season-long event series specifically designed to embrace the culture and values that resonate most with participating teams’ local U.S. Hispanic/Latino communities. Based on the successful launch of its national “It’s Fun to Be a Fan” (and corresponding Spanish-language “Es Divertido Ser Un Fan®”) marketing campaign in 2017, participating teams will bolster their marketing and customer service efforts this season to create a culturally-relevant gameday experience through music, concessions and promotions. The 165-game event series begins on April 8, in Round Rock, Texas

The Merch is OUTSTANDING.  Here’s just a small sample…

So let’s talk about the Cyclones…

 BROOKLYN CYCLONES = BROOKLYN JEFES

Brooklyn is more than a place, it’s a mentality: an air of confi¬dence, bordering on cockiness; a feeling of pride and of certainty that the place you call home is unlike anywhere else in the world.

Brooklyn is a physical location, and a state of mind. It’s a feeling of superiority: a feeling like you are the best, a feeling that when you walk in the room, you’re in charge.

That mentality, and that feeling of invincibility is why the team chose to be known as the “Jefes,” or “Bosses,” with the borough’s greatest monument, the Brooklyn Bridge, prominently featured as the crown jewel of this powerful identity, representing those bosses that call Brooklyn home.

And the caps are OK, the jerseys really cool.

I LOVE THIS PROMOTION.  It’s what baseball should be.  FUN.

And…it is able to delve into Spanish Language merch in a way that is really COOL and not lame like this…hey lets slap a tiny Los on the jersey and call it Hispanic Night.  Seriously?  And thank you MILB for proving my point that aside from looking ridiculous the LOS made no sense unless you were gonna break out jerseys that said THE METS.

Anyway I loved last year when the 51s did this…

And that’s one of my favorite caps.  I’m going to give into temptation and buy a whole bunch of these tonight.   (PRO TIP the Cyclones site is charging $41, this site has the caps for less)

….and mid-post I just bought 4 caps.  Bought Jefes, the blue Reyes de Plata variant I just discovered, a Mariachis and a Conquistadores…..

YEAH I JUST SPENT $163 DOLLARS IN CAPS OK?  LEAVE ME ALONE.  WHY DO YOU THINK I PUT ADS IN FRONT OF YOU PEOPLE.

Great great job Minor League Baseball people.  This is so cool and so much fun.  This is everything that yesterday’s “hey blue caps for Father’s Day” announcement is not.

I would LOVE to see MAJOR League Baseball steal this idea.   Instead of slapping a tiny los on something imagine how much fun NUEVA YORK BURROS (Burros being one of the names under consideration back in the dawn of the franchise…Burros for Boroughs, get it)…NEW YORK BURROS could be cool.  This is everything Los Mets wasn’t.

I love this.
