In which Kaz Matsui just retired (?!), we see early Virusness, and why does this guy have an orange Joe Morgan jersey

Hey kids, do you remember Kaz” The Wrong” Matsui from a million years ago? Well, he just retired.

The Mets BIG SPLASHED around Kaz and made him the SS, which meant their hotshot rookie Jose “Not Yet A Virus” Reyes had to play second.  And Reyes being Reyes had his numbers crater because he is a delicate flower who gets sad when asked to play other positions.  His average went from .307 at SS to .255 as a 2B and back magically to .300 as a SS in 2005.  But I digress…

Meanwhile, back in Matsui-ness, the Yankees had HIDEKI Matsui who of course was awesome and much more awesome than our Matsui.

Kaz hit .256 with 11 home runs in parts of three seasons with the Mets.  Kaz would somehow appear in the 2007 World Series with the Rockies.  Apparently the 2007 Rockies were in the World Series and I have no recollection of who they played.

Kaz is so unmemorable that I have been blogging for 10+ years and the one of the only imagse I have for you is this….

Yahoo Japan has the story, but unless you can read Japanese, you will have to trust Google Translate as I did below, which is entertaining in itself

Matsui retireing this season, hit 2090 NPB hits in the last game of the regular season. This day will retire in this season Softbank Honda retirement match. A big applause was also sent to the 42-year-old legend who retires in this season as well as Honda when announcing “hit hit / Masui Kazuo Ma” in 1st death of 8 times.

A bat that faced Terahara. The second strike and the third ball after being driven down. The striking ball that repelled the straight thrown by the right arm broke the three play and left to the front left. The left front hat to expand the opportunity was NPB total 2090 hits, Japan and the United States total 2705 hits. Seibu is the final race this season. If batting does not come this way, it will hit in the regular season “Last bat”.

Finally, I salute the You Own This Mets Jersey participant below.  Well done sir.  Anyone who has a seemingly bootleg Matsui jersey made is a true fan.

But let’s talk about that orange lettered Joe Morgan jersey.  Is that a Joe Morgan Giants jersey????  Astros?  Who are these guys and why do they hang out together?  They have some awesomeness random jerseys.

Add Mets Police to Apple News, will ya?
