One of the frequent knocks on the Mets organization is that they don’t communicate well.
With Gooden in the news, folks are thinking about the Mets Hall of Fame and museum.
I have posted a story in which a guard says it might not be ready for Opening Day.
This morning on WFAN Evan Roberts wondered why we are hearing nothing about it.
The perception is that it won’t be ready.
If there’s going to be a big ceremony on April 5th, why not announce it?
If it won’t be ready then just slip into the press notes that it will open “this summer.” Â While you’re at it explain why.
In the meantime, this becomes one of those situations where the perception becomes that the Mets have no plan.
So Mets, I ask you: what’s the story?
As for Gooden, since they announced he was going in you have to put him in. Whether or not he’ll be able to attend remains to be seen.
Well, I think the Mets still get surprised how fast news gets out.
With Gooden they obviously should wait until all the facts are in and make a decision regarding it.
With the Hall of Fame, there is no reason to put out the possibility of failure when it might be open right on time as expected. They should reevaulate next week, but if it’s Wednesday and not looking good..let us know. You’re going to have to let us know where/when/how/hours anyway.
News does get out fast. Even the Gooden thing – I happened to look at deadspin as it went live – it didn’t even catch fire on twitter for another few hours.
yea your right Shannon. I was sending twitter messages to the beat reporters about the gooden thing and they didn’t do anything for hours
pure speculation but perhaps beat reporters don’t trust Deadspin as a source. It has taken time for people to trust TMZ as a source. The first time I heard “mainstream” accept TMZ was with Michael Jackson.
They don’t. Beat writers have their value, and big props to the guys interacting with fans on Twitter lately, but they also think they’re better than us. And bloggers/fans/guys on the couch, are mostly the same to them.
Not to say they should automatically accept anything anyone says either. Most of them ARE better than most of the random commenters and bloggers. But don’t rule us out either. There are plenty of inciteful people out there that can see things even without having sat in the clubhouse.
