New York Mets to use ‘dynamic pricing’ for seats in 2012 – ESPN New York

Adam Rubin did a good job here explaining how dynamic pricing will work.

When it becomes apparent that San Francisco Giants ace Tim Lincecum is lining up to face Johan Santana, creating more demand, the ticket price would move upward.

Should the Philadelphia Phillies, seemingly an attractive opponent, limp into Citi Field late next season in last place with projected demand to see the game not materializing, the ticket price will be adjusted downward.

On last night’s call with David Howard my takeaway was that tickets won’t undercut season ticket holders but still might be dirt cheap.  He mentioned there are sections where there are no season tickets available.  Hold that thought.

So say Media Goon has a $25 ticket in the Promenade Gold.  The Mets will never sell a ticket for less than $25 in that general area.  However they could choose to sell a much lesser ticket in the No Seasons Zone.  So Say section 504 has no season tickets available in it (I made up that section).  The Mets may choose to drop 504 to $9 some rainy Sunday Night Baseball against the Nationals…but Goon wouldn’t have to worry about some guy sitting right next to him for less than $25.

I have a lot to say about today’s events and will spend most of tomorrow linking and commenting.  Here’s one to get you through the overnight.  See you in the morning.

In a conference call this evening, Executive Vice President for Business Operations David Howard said that there’d been discussion about sending out invoices even earlier, but that a change in online ticket vendors (the Mets moved to tickets.com) precluded that. Taking him at his word, it’s hard to think of the payment plan the Mets did institute- six payments beginning 11/7- as an inherently fan-friendly move, when it means coming up with a significant chunk of money more than a month earlier than last year. And remember, it isn’t just those season ticket holders who need to commit by 11/7- it is everyone in the full-season boat.

But  regarding the new schedule-it is hard not to see the move as a cynical attempt to get fan money while raising hopes that maybe Jose Reyes will return.

Dynamic ticket pricing comes to Citi Field

Wow I just got back and lots going on. Here’s the first thing that catches my eye.

I haven’t digested it all, and don’t know the specifics of the Mets’ plans but with other teams here’s what it tends to mean:

The Ace Pitcher is pitching against a good team and it’s 80 and sunny out. prices go up.  (Think Saturday, Santana, Phillies.)

It’s a crap matchup and it might rain. Prices go down.

Also keep in mind with all today’s news…

SEASON TICKETS means 81 game packages. In the past it has not meant the 15 game plans.

So don’t let your brain translate SEASON ticket rules into 15 game plan rules…such as when the Mets say “the Mets will not price single game tickets in Season Ticket Holder areas below the Season Ticket Holder discounted prices.”

Dynamic Pricing

The Mets will introduce dynamic pricing for 2012 single game tickets.  The face value of single game tickets will initially be offered in March 2012 at prices at or below 2011 prices.  As time progresses, those prices may be adjusted on a real-time basis, either upwards or downwards, based on market demand.  The ability for the Mets to adjust prices throughout the season will provide all fans with a variety of pricing options.

However, the Mets will not price single game tickets in Season Ticket Holder areas below the Season Ticket Holder discounted prices.

The dynamic pricing system will be powered by Qcue, Inc., which provides dynamic pricing for live entertainment and sports teams including the Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago White Sox, Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals. In addition, Qcue works with clubs in the National Basketball Association and National Hockey League.

Be careful what you wish for Mets fans.  Be careful what you wish for.

I’ll dive in more as time allows…but we have until March.

Should The Mets Sign C.J. Wilson Instead Of Jose Reyes? | Mets Merized Online

Looking over the stats, the Mets had one of the better offensive clubs in the National League, but also put together just about the worst pitching staff. With everyone speculating every which way to acquire pitching while re-signing Jose Reyes, I say: If the Mets really need pitching THAT badly -which they do-, why not let Reyes walk and sign C.J. Wilson instead?
