July 1977: Tom Seaver “not an all star”

Here’s another vintage article from the summer of 1977.

In this one:

  • Dick Young says Seaver is no All-Star
  • A young outfielder named Steve Henderson is praised for his success with the Mets, and the way he immediately joined the team after the trade rather than taking a day or two.
  • Nolan Ryan wasn’t initially selected to the All Star team.   This article is dated July 20th and says Ryan has 13 wins and 234 strike outs.  No type TWO HUNDRED THIRTY FOUR.   Jeez Louise, who DID make the team?

In case you are wondering, the Mets sent John Stearns as their rep.  That’s why old guys like me wax poetic about Stearns and Mazzilli.  They were “All-Star” players in our formative years.

Video: Spiderman attends a Mets game, gets attacked by wall

Hmmmm…Spidey is at a game with a brick wall and bleachers?  Are the Mets playing the Cubs?

Yet it’s the Top of the 6th and the Mets are on defense.

And the Mets are wearing logo-less and pinstripeless jerseys (this is the 1970’s).

Finally, Spidey seems to be wearing an old New York Giants cap (note the intersection of the N and the Y on his blue cap)

I’m glad we have the internet.

Who will be King Of Piazza?

Will it be Pete who wants it so bad that he sent me his Mercury Mets Piazza jersey thinking I would forget that that’s what made him King of Mercury…so Pete sent this in…note Piazza airdrums at 2:50.  Cheese.

Will it be @B_MacK8 with his Piazza lightswitch? (Click on it for a better resolution version – it came over twitter and I had to decide between tiny or fuzzy.)

Or will it be you. Who will be King Of Piazza?
