Proposed Uniform Treaty of Flushing 2010

Friends,

In the interest of the greatest good I have decided to modify the proposed terms of the Treaty of Flushing.  Today I take it to my constituents for discussion.

There are some major concessions being made here, and I make them based upon the uphill battle that would need to be fought against certain former minor league baseball players who like different colors than I.

If you’re a newbie, the Treaty of Flushing will be when Dave Howard and I meet in an old abandoned 7-train subway car to settle our differences and unite in friendship.

Proposed terms:

1.  Drop-shadow is removed from all uniform designs except the black jerseys.

2.  “Hybrid caps” are eliminated and the Mets always wear blue caps.

3.  As established in 2010, the Mets primary home uniform shall be white, pinless, with blue piping, blue caps, blue socks.   This uniform shall be worn on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday with the exception of Opening Day and the first home game of the World Series.

4.  On Opening Day, Sundays and the first home home game of the World Series, the Mets home uniform will be pinstripes with blue everything, as was worn by Tom Seaver in 1969.

5.  On Friday at home the Mets will wear black jerseys with all-black caps and matching black attire.

6.  On Friday on the road the Mets will wear black NEW YORK jerseys with all-black caps and matching black attire.

7.  On the road the Mets will wear gray NEW YORK jerseys in the traditional “1973” style with blue caps and matching blue attire, except on Friday when they will wear black.

8.  Names will appear on all versions of the jerseys.

9.  Dave Howard will provide an updated quote indicating that there are indeed seats where the plexiglass at Citi Field blocks your view of home plate.

10.  The uniform design shall remain through the 2030 season.  Any major change in design would replace the Friday black jerseys.

I’ve made some major concessions and I cannot bend any further.

I think this should please the traditionalists, the Piazza/Valentine generation, those who wish to coordinate their attire with the team’s, and the marketers.

What do y’all think of the proposal?

Possible changes to 2011 Mets uniform?

Metsblog has posted a story about possible changes to the 2011 uniforms.

In a nusthell, it could be that black stays in the mix and they might get rid of the blue piping on the pinless.

Discuss!

As I’ve been saying all day, if you like this say so.  If you don’t like it say so – but do more than telling me.  Tell the other blogs, tell the writers, write a letter.

But if you like it, stand up for your opinion!

My opinion: I think I have made it clear I don’t like black as part of the uniforms and that I think the black dropshadow takes away from even the white uniforms.    I can’t judge a piping-less uniform until I see one but my gut reaction is to leave the pinless the same as it is for 2010.

If anyone has expertise in MLB marketing please email me ([email protected]).  I’d love to know how much lead time has to be given to the league, to manufacturers, partners etc.

I have no idea if this is locked in stone or just being considered.

Guest posts welcome and encouraged.

Mets fans: speak up, be heard

Yesterday I wrote about my personal theory and speculation that the black uniforms could be going.  I base that upon nothing but me walking around the park, seeing the emphasis on blue and orange and knowing that next year is the 50th season.

It definitely was noticed in the Metsosphere, and generally well received.

I got a very interesting email this morning from a good source.  I’m not at all ready to share it or even what it’s about – but it leads me to the point of this morning’s rambling.

I say the next sentence with all humility.   The Mets Police have influence, and the Mets Police are YOU.

We have a community forming here.  We love our team, and we’re all very passionate.

If you like the idea of no-black, comment about it.   Write about it.   Send an email to Flushing.  Write an old fashioned letter to Mr. Wilpon.

If you think the black uniforms rule – great, you’re a fan too.  Write about it, send an email to Flushing, write to Mr. Wilpon and send me a guest column – I will happily post it.

Whether it’s food choices you’d like to see, a player honored, an idea for a stadium improvement – whatever it is – speak your voice.

I didn’t really like what was in the inbox this morning, but this is about a conversation.  It’s not just my opinion that matters.

What’s your opinion?

Speak up, and don’t just speak up here.   Some day I’ll be gone (and don’t read anything into that at all).

You are the Mets Police.

Frequent readers will notice that Media Goon is writing some articles now.  Coming up this morning he will comment on some behavior we saw last night.  This movement is about so much more than a Seaver statue or what the Mets wear.

Look how great Citi Field has become.  Look at the beautiful museum!  Hear the awesome organ music at the games.  Enjoy the vegetarian food.  Come out August 1st and salute your ’86 heroes.

Speak up!  Spread the ideas.  If you’re a blogger, share my ideas and I will share yours.  Lets Go Mets!
