Dodgers fan on a blue cap kick too (link)

I thought this was fun from a Dodgers fan who sounds like my kind of guy.

So, I’m in the market for a cap. Yes, a baseball cap, and more specifically a Dodger cap. No, not an “LA” hat, a Dodger hat. And as far as I can remember, those come in one color — Dodger blue.

Without looking up, the young man waves his hand to a section of wall extending from the sweatbands to the shoe whitener. I get confused. I asked for Dodgers, not a pink hat with an LA on it. I try again,”no, sorry, I’m looking for a blue Dodgers hat.” The ref turns, a slot machine of looks flash across his face and finally pauses somewhere between shock and hatred, “right there, man.” His finger makes a definitive dotted line with an arrowhead pointing directly to a blue buffalo-checked cap with chambray interior.

I’m having bizarro day.  Isn’t Daylight Savings when you’re supposed to wake up later than usual?  I’m up early.  Maybe I’ll go slap on a black Mets cap and take good photos.  Here’s the weekly rundown of most popular:

I’d like to see standings flags on top of Citi Field. I was surprised to learn that they had been replaced by American flags in the final days of Shea…not sure when that switch happened, but I see the evidence in my photos.

I’m really surprised you guys are digging Fake Jeff Wilpon:  here’s episode 1 and 2 if you missed it.  I have nothing to do with it, I just find it funny.

I was surprised people clicked on this one, I thought I was just being cranky: Do the Mets bosses really think this uniform looks good?

This regularly gets clicked: It might make financial sense, but it sure is annoying to think Bobby Bonilla will get $1 million a year from the Mets from 2011-2035.

Mets Yearbook 1980 is coming

Thanks to Manny for the heads-up:

Just wanted to let you know that by using the directv application on my iPod touch I found that SNY is scheduled to finally show a different Mets Yearbook.  The 1980 yearbook is scheduled to air on Tuesday, March 23 at 6:30 pm and Wednesday, March 24 at 4:00 pm.  That team stunk but I loved that team.  Heck, what did I know back then, I was only eight years old.

Will they talk a lot about first baseman Lee Mazzilli?   Will they mention a young scrubby pitcher in the bullpen named Mike Scott?  Will they show pictures of John Pacella’s cap falling off after every pitch.  That’s not me exaggerating.  It fell off after every pitch.  The Mets even asked MLB if he could go cap-less and the answer was no.

I love this series, and I’d love to see a deliberately cheesy modern-version hosted by Howie Rose.  I can see/hear it now,”The 2009 season got off to a great start with a 2-1 victory over the Reds…”

Random thought: the Mets didn’t really interrupt the Jason Bay press conference to hand him a Rangers jersey, did they?  I made that up in my dreams, right?

New York Mets St. Patrick’s Day attire Part 4

Today we look at green Mets attire for the bedroom. The shirt? I think it would look nice on any pretty Mets fan. As for the boxers – after you’ve been down in the basement blogging for two hours, show up in a pair of these and you’re sure to get lucky. What woman can resist a fat blogger with an NY on his shorts?

Mets learn what it’s like to be a fan and travel to a likely rain-out

I laugh at this story.

Yesterday it was pouring rain in Florida but the Twins were annoying and waited to rain the game out.  So the Mets traveled 2+ hours to get to the stadium, and then the game was called.

Now they know what it’s like to be a fan of a major league team.

The Mets do this sort of fan-torture several times every summer.

Take today in NYC as an example.  If there were a 1:10 game scheduled, and it’s about 9am as I write this – I’d be wondering if I should make the long hike out to Flushing.    Do I “eat” my tickets?  Do I potentially waste time?  Why not just tell everyone at 10am so we can all get on with our lives?

Typically the Mets would announce that they were trying to get the game in, so I’d drive and pay tolls and waste time.  Maybe even buy two hot dogs while waiting in the dry stands.  At best it would be a crappy day to sit in the ballpark, and worst it’s a waste of time and money.

I regularly call for MLB to treat fans with respect and to call games earlier.  Even if you could squeeze in a game today, who wants to sit there?

Do I feel bad that the Mets wasted several hours commuting?  Not at all.  Remember that mid-summer when it rains all day and they wait until 7:42 to decide to call the game.

I wonder if they paid $19 to park?
