Top 10 2000s Mets Lowlights (SI Advance)

I can’t dive in on this one right now, but you will absolutely enjoy this look at the Top 10 Horriblenesses from the 2000s.

I like #9…my kind of humor.

9. The Kaz Matsui Error
The Japanese Derek Jeter? I think not. Infielder from the far East was the team’s big signing prior to the 2004 season — they even displaced a young, cannon-armed shortstop named Jose Reyes to second base to make room. What the Mets got was an overpaid, oft-injured utility player who never hit higher than .272 and was eventually traded for a third-string catcher.

Mets Season Ticket Holder’s Tour Of Citi Field: Trainer’s Room! (Part 3)

Parental Guidance suggested.  The following posts contains horrific images that may upset Mets fans.  Today the tour of Citi Field takes us to….the trainer’s room!  Once again thanks to Jimmy for sending these over.

Don’t you have the giggles already?

Heh heh heh.  One of the most used rooms at Citi Field.

Contrary to rumor, the old New York Giants are prominently honored by these 1951 themed weights.

I don’t have a good joke.  Sorry.

Only three beds?  What if there’s a doubleheader?

More from the tour tomorrow!

Interesting Reyes story in the Times

I am uneducated on this subject, but my spidey sense thinks this we haven’t heard the last of it.  For clarity, I am in no way suggesting that Reyes did anything wrong or should be on any list of suspects….my point is that there’s a budding story involving name-athletes and Jose Reyes is now appearing in a headline, thus I can see an awkward Omar Minaya press conference within a week.  Read the Times for a far better explanation of the story than I could ever do.

The first sentence in the Times snippet is more alarmist than the rest of the story…again I’m not accusing Reyes of being on anything…and I’m being serious (not my usual catty self).

Published: December 16, 2009
Shortstop Jose Reyes traveled to Toronto last summer to be treated by Dr. Anthony Galea, who is being examined by authorities regarding distribution of performance-enhancing drugs.

Is Jeff Francoeur calling on behalf of the Mets ticket office?

This is unconfirmed and once again I’ll remind all that this is just a
fanblog with an ear to the ground.

Mo sent me an email saying that one Mets fan decided not to renew his
28 season tickets. As the story goes, the phone rang and it was
Francouer on the other end. After some chatting the fan renewed 20 of
the seats for “a discount.”.

If there’s any other stories like this out in the wild please send
them in. Coincidentally, Francoeur is hosting a live chat at 11am on mets.com
today, and yesterday I saw some mention of Francoeur asking the fans
not to be so negative.

I’ll hunt around and see if I can find out more, and thanks to Mo and
others who send things in. We have a nice community forming around
these parts.

I’ll have some details from Ben’s phone call from the Mets on a little
bit, and we’re in the trainers room with Jimmy (pictures) before 11am.

UPDATE: not sure if a discount applied.  Still looking into it.

Omar’s selling what?

From Brian Costa in the Star-Ledger, quoting Omar Minaya:

Guys want to go to situations where they feel that they have a good
chance to win. We know that, okay? I think what we sell here, we
sell the beautiful ballpark, we sell a great city. You’re right. We
did not win this year. But in the past year’s we’ve won and we’ve been
a competitve team.

Whoa.

Let’s start with winning. I define it differently than the team in
Flushing. The Mets last won in 1986. Even under a looser definition
the Mets last won in 2006. So don’t sell me on winning.

Hey big free agent, is isn’t Citi Field beautiful? Sure I know
you’re worried that your power numbers will dip by two-thirds but
think of the Broadway shows, besides here’s some new statistical
evidence that Citi Field doesn’t cost you home runs even though anyone
with eyes can see that it does or could just look up David Wright’s
stats.

Check out Costa’s piece if you want yo be depressed.
